no good deed, i guess?
This thread reminds me of when a teenager kills someone and we see pics of the "good boy" but then the gangster pics follow. I think most think the deer was a fawn...it was grown up lol. It sucks but it is against the law and probably for good reason...also this is true for many states.

In fairness it probably wouldn't have made it past 7 months in the wild before something got it.
truth!

I made sure to post pics as an adult to avoid just this comparison.

It's against the law to care for an injured animal? I thought the law was for keeping it captive
From what I gathered, the fawn was blind, and bad off. Likely the mother abandoned it for being blind. They nursed it and fed it back to health, and it basically stayed. NOT locked behind a fence and free to roam. Can't the same be said about deer feeders, and deer staying on your land because you feed them? Besides the deer being blind, and friendly to them, how is that different? LDWF are thugs, always have been

Does anyone know if this also applies to outlaw quadrupeds? Asking for a friend that really likes bacon.

They kind of have to with deer nowadays because of chronic wasting disease. If you live in LA but hunt out of state, you can't even bring the dead deer carcass back across state lines to process it at home. Nothing with spinal column or head tissue attached can be brought across state lines due to CWD restrictions.
LDWF definitely should have went out and checked on this situation, but probably should've just used some discretion to let this one go since the deer wasn't imported from out of state and wasn't being held in a high fence that it couldn't easily jump out of.
I get the CWD angle- but did you see that deer? I'd wager he was in a LOT better shape (except for being blind) than 90% of LA whitetails this time of year. Didn't appear to be in poor health, other than being blind. VERY well fed....I'm not sure how that particular animal was better off getting euthanized than he would've been being with that family who were clearly taking great care of him. Add to that the fact that all charges/fines were dropped points to a really bad call, in this case....I mean it's not like they were out there setting traps to add to their deer collection...
Maybe Gov Landry should take a look at that department and ask why this case was made such a priority.....do they have a budget surplus?

My buddy had a "pet deer" few years back from exactly same situation, was left to die by its mother so they took it in and nursed her back to health. She was in a 40x85 dog run with gate left open for her to roam his 500 acres. She slept in a big arse dog house they even built for her. She wore an orange collar so none of the hunters knew not to shoot her. Only rule he had was we didn't talk about "Backstrap" which was her name. He had her about 5 years. Not sure what happened to her but he thinks a pack of yotes got her as he was having issues around that time with yotes. Miss that deer, she was super cool.
I know it's taboo, but it sucks that by doing a good deed, it can possibly get you into some trouble.

frick those slimy cocksuckers.

I hope they all meet their demise. If by an animal, even better. As well as the a$$hole who reported. W&F are utterly useless and worthless.

civil restitution for the deer?

Anything less than 8' high fence and that deer wouldn't have any problems jumping it to go in or out of the "pen"
I imagine a blind deer would have issues

But for this incident, the investigation should have ended with everyone going about their way. No charges, no confiscating the deer. Deer was free to leave the property anytime it wanted. The deer wasn't imported from out of state or from a CWD zone. LDWF should have just left this one alone after they saw what the situation was.

What’s not in the story is that LDWF employees had backstrap for dinner.

I watched the news interview they did euthanize it. Had to shoot it 2 times with a dart gun on the families property
