It will be worse for the millenial generation.
Being child-free sounds like a lot of fun when you are young, but as you get older you will turn into the people in this article.

If you’ve ever spent any time around baby boomers it isn’t really shocking that they die alone at staggering rates

I’m a millennial and I’ve been alone for over a decade. It sucks. All I do is post on this website, play video games and watch pornography. It’s so depressing.

I can't wait for the day I don't have to deal with people anymore.

If you have to rely on kids to have a social life I’m not sure how great that is

Over half of all marriages end in divorce.
This is just reaping what you sow.
Not judging anyone for getting divorced. Can happpen to anyone. This is the after effects though.

Boomer, single, retired but am choosing to continue to work because I can and far from feeling lonely or alone. I'm in good health, workout and run everyday, travel as much as I want and have a great network of friends and family.

Some of these people who are able should consider remaining in their jobs. It gives you purpose and occupies your mind. There are plenty of social clubs for seniors. For those that are of faith, there are plenty of Bible clubs and social get-togethers.

There's the source.
Time to hang the hat buddy. You gave it a good run.

This. What's the Hank Jr. song? "All my rowdy friends have settled down".
My wife and I have given up on most of the friends we used to party with.

Should have been an operator...LOL what a loser....

This is very true. However the retirement financial industry has people brainwashed that they should retire and enjoy their "golden years". I've never bought into that premise as since a young man I've noticed that too often people retire and die way too soon and if not become irrelevant and unrelatable in just a few years and it's not just because they're old. I've seen people who are working into their 80s who are spry and happy and connected and seemed to live a really good life. That's the path I'm choosing.

Thats the saddest part. Whenever I get married, I hope to God she outlives me.

66 doesn't seem too old to go do things with other people, if you so desire.
This is basically true. I'm 66 and do pretty much any damn thing I want. No, I don't play softball, flag football or jog like I did in my younger days, but I'm still active in a lot of things.
The only caveat is how your health holds up as you age. I know people who are acting old at 50 and have seen others who were very active suddenly become almost sedentary due to injuries or illnesses that rob them of their vitality. There is no one size fits all when people age.
Then, some people are living on a fixed income and that doesn't allow them to be as social as they once were. It often comes to making the choice of food/meds or a few nights on the town with friends.
