I get what you're saying but I'm just saying that the kid's argument was most likely centered around the games main mechanic of buying and selling players at auction. A feature that exists in the game, but obviously not in real life.
Take the players likeness out of the equation. Ultimate team is really just a game about buying and selling "people"
maybe the kid's argument was dumb as hell. We'll never know because we don't know what the actual topic assigned was, nor what actual argument was made.

Agreed
The kid was making an emotional argument about how it makes him feel. Not a rational argument based in facts
So the teacher needs to clarify what the value of the exercise is supposed to be.
Is it the clear presentation of the argument or the writing “style” of the argument that counts
If I write a compelling argument that the sun rises in the west do I get a reward for my writing or get dinged because my argument is factually wrong no matter how well I present it?

life insurance rates are a form of slavery
military rank is a form of slavery
As long as one persons services are more valuable than anothers, based on how much you are willing to invest in them, then they are 'enslaved' to you

He sounds like a future premium OT poster that will relish in observing the outrage his writing can create, and will passionately argue just to argue.
If you gave him that grade based on sloppy organization and grammar, okay. If even part of your being graded him based on his opinion, you are a horrible piece of shite and shouldn’t be a teacher.
Either way, you are definitely violating school policy by posting very easily identifiable parts of his submitted work online here. Please consider you are publicizing his grade, and then very publicly insinuating that your personal assumptions of his character and disagreement with his arguments contributed to his grade.
Posted the word for word title of your student’s essay. Why the frick would you do this?

I propose directing this child to the Poliboard so he may be enlightened by the contrast of views.

Another example of a teacher giving a low grade because they didn’t agree with the writer.

Not reading six pages on this kids assignment, but the fact that his response caused you to come here and start a thread about it leads me to think he deserved an A-, at minimum.

Those madden slaves sure do make a bunch of money, a lot more than the old slaves used to make. Amazing how life makes full circles... I wish I were a modern day slave.

Then it forks a little NFL players have choice and go on to make millions
Slaves got chained and head to some OT Baws great grandfather cotton field.

I read the entire thread and you are completely full of shite when you say his grade wasn't based on his opinion being different than yours. That's a bs way of handing out grades. Even if you completely disagree with a student's opinion, you shouldn't let that affect your grading. I don't agree with his paper topic, but it is damn creative.
Do the right thing and fix his grade.

Never played the game; not sure of the mechanics - so tell me this... does this auction seem to indicate that the player being "sold" is thus owned in all aspects by another human being? Or is it obvious to even a casual observer that the "sale" is for services on the football field?
If the latter, then the kid's point is a pathetic one. And that has no relation to his grade on the paper. But the OP did say that instructions weren't followed, so who knows.

I mean, using this logic, basically anybody who works for money is a slave? Is my boss a slave master because I go to work and he pays me to make him income?
I feel like property when I work
So.. everybody is a slave owner and racist
