People are realizing the rat race based on consumerism is bullshite. There are more people looking into homesteading and off grid living than ever before.

Is it all just hospitality, restaurant, and lower paying jobs?
No, there are major shortages of police, teachers, and EMTs.

Same .
Southeast Asia is looking really good to me.. Depending on which country, your dollar can go as much as five times further, there are tropical locations with beautiful beaches, and even more beautiful women.

This is key…. I have been in the process of becoming more ‘minimalist’ for a while, collecting ‘experiences and not things’.. but the pandemic has accelerated this for me, and made it even more clear that accumulating ‘stuff’ is not the answer.

I know two families who have done this and a few others who are talking about it. People are sick of living their lives out staring at a computer or a phone. And also all of the political and social rot going on in this country.
Oh, and the two families that did it are the happiest people I know now. There is great freedom in disconnecting and breathing the clean air!

I moved to Austin 6 years ago to be closer to job opportunities. Last year I got a new job that’s fully remote with a Bay Area company. Now I’m wondering if it’s worth staying in Austin or to cash out on my appreciated house and move back to the gulf coast. The freedom is incredible.
I'm selling a house in Chicago and moving to Louisiana. My industry is moving from 70% travel to mostly remote.
Can't wait. Going to be so much closer to family.

We have become way too dependent on being slaves to the workforce.
Amen. I can't tell you how many 65-70 hour weeks I had during the first half of 2021 trying to meat deadlines while we continue to cut resources.
My wife works 33 hours a week and has a 5 minute commute. This new job won't ever require more than 45 hours, and I got a 32% bump.
Take your life back.

We don’t need to work anymore. Just stay at home, get your jab, wear a mask and do your shopping through Metaverse using your EBT card.
No need to work or go outside anymore.

I quit my job in June 2021, but that was to take another job with a 45% pay bump six miles from my house vs 35 miles one way each day

Rather than bragging about slowly killing yourself through stress and exhaustion, perhaps you should be questioning why are you even having to do this in the first place?
It's sad man, and people just eat this shite up as if it's a good thing to be worked to death.

Customers/ people as a whole are turning into assholes. People have lost the concept of situational awareness, and being told no is not in their vocabulary!
This and I’m frustrated with lack of direction. Of upper management. I’ll be 62 this year and I don’t think I can take much more. If I was turning 65 no doubt I would be out of the labor force for good.

they are quitting for higher paying jobs, whether in the same sector or not.
I'll be joining that crowd later this year, after I "retire" from my current company (taking all the benefits that come with that).
Unless of course they wanna pay me another 20%. That's the problem, I like who I work for tremendously and can easily see myself staying w them until I fully retire in three years.

We had two people quit immediately after Christmas.
Both were mid-20's and BOTH had zero employment lined up prior to resigning
When asked they both said they were confident that things would "line up" for them...
WTF

Just had someone assigned with a significant task on one of my projects inform me at the start of a weekly meeting that he has put his two week notice in. That's really the first in my immediate circle, although someone I worked with on another completed project moved on to a regulatory agency last year.

There’s also been a not insignificant jump in homeschooling because of all the prog bullshite and parents just finding out they enjoyed time with their kids.
Many years ago when I worked in retail, several people also worked retail to supplement income with another job and/or spouse’s job. Even a retiree worked part time retail to supplement because he had young kids still.
Except service industry as a whole sucks due to bad managers, mostly awful corporate poops, many horrible customers, and thieves.
I wouldn’t be shocked to learn that many of those types simply decided not to go back to crap jobs in crap companies as part time work.
Some got a taste of not being made to feel like human excrement every shift and enjoying being with their kids or grandkids.

They should call it the new Great Migration. It isn't just that people are quitting. People are completely re-prioritizing their lives.
This. You can count me in the number people resigning. Put in my notice last year, but staying on until April to help my company with a transition.
While the major perk of my current job is it's work from home - the work from home is the only reason I've stayed on. But in the end, it wasn't enough to make up for all the other negatives - the stress, the never ending problems, the hours, the drama. And I've been with my company 20+ years.
Trading it in for a new career path. Plan to work with a career coach and recruiter. We have plenty of rainy day money saved up, so having a temporary gap in employment doesn't concern me. Plus, I'll welcome taking a bit of time off.
What did it for me is I was sitting at my desk during a very stressful moment last Fall. And I said to myself (internally), "you just need to eek out 10-12 more years, then you're done". And I realized that I sounded like someone waiting to be paroled. And I decided at that moment that it's no way to live life and I would rather take another job, even for less money, than live life that way.
