Move to DFW man. So many IT companies popping up left and right.
I did VERY well in my programming classes in school (except for assembly, which is a different animal), but I never really enjoyed it. And I've played around with PLLs/555 timers and the like, but I never took a communications class in school so I'd be fairly clueless getting into telecom.

The median home value in Nashville is $231,400
To qualify with 5% down a couple or single person would have to gross $4753 a month with reasonable debt outside of the mortgage payment.
WTF am I missing here? That's $30k a person.

They don't make the same money on an inflation adjusted basis as generations before them. Your point is irrelevant.
I know millenials making 6-figures in areas where that is easily affluent income and still complain about not being able to buy a house. They spend what they earn on frivolity and have zero concept of the value of money over time. Medical and dental schools host lectures on running practices, investing, retirement, etc. and the students blow them off. My millennial fiancée went to every finance-related lecture, cut her expenses to bone, lived on a meager stipend, and graduated dental school and earned a Ph.D. simultaneously with zero student debt. Don't give me any bullshite weak-minded excuses, these kids can earn the money, they simply need to lose their sense of entitlement and bust their asses for once in their lives.

This isn't true for people living away from the South.
WTF? The upper Midwest, Great Plains, Las Vegas, Eastern Oregon and Washington, Idaho....
Hell in geographically much of California it's true

It's not just the South. It's true for basically anywhere outside of California, the Pacific Northwest, and the Northeast.

You don't necessarily have to do what I do. The Core network is almost explicitly IP / Linux driven. So if you can do stupid shite like allocate new discs , count hops, create macros, then you will look like a God.
A lot of old farts here. I had to literally bring my entire lab into the 21st century.

I know that I was a bit of an outlier with the long wait to get a job, but I think that STEM = easy to get a great paying job is overblown.

I know many young people knocking on 6 figures in the south and they're in debt up to their asses. 3 years in the workforce and they have a $60k truck, $40k boat, $225k house, etc etc.
Kinda hard for me to look at them from my $1500 Toyota Camry and wonder wtf I am doing wrong
ETA: the banks seem to be throwing money at people my age. They were going to approve me to borrow $215k for my first house on a 3% down payment. I couldn't nearly afford that.

Since 2010 millennial population trends rank New York, Chicago, Washington, and Portland in the bottom half of major metropolitan areas while the young head out to less expensive, highly suburbanized areas such as Orlando, Austin, and San Antonio.
Millennial SA homeowner here

Without arguing with your point, you do realize it was your generation that raised millennials right? The 40-60 year old crowd wants to blame everything on millennials, but they're the ones that taught them to act like they do.
I was born in 1990 bro. You have a moot point.

I think that's another issue. A lot of people want to keep up the Joneses. Save money, live within your means and you'll be able to afford things.

True
I was just stating that there are more perks than just the money that comes with dating/marrying an educated person. I 100% agree with what you're saying, though.

Indians are taking over engineering from a desk job perspective more and more everyday. Yall engineers need to know this. Please understand this is true. Please understand that the executives at your company don't really understand what you do. Understand that you will be outsourced in the next five years. Unless you are an owner or government, your PE is going to be worthless soon.

So basically the places less desirable, it's affordable?
Makes sense.
It costs, on average, $201 per square foot in Flathead County. This includes nothing but small towns like Kalispell, Evergreen, Columbia Falls, Whitefish, Hungry Horse, Bigfork, etc.
I can't find a place in my area for shite. Plus rental prices are sky high as well.

Most of these idiots probably have student loans, too.

Yes, which is why I said mid-sized cities. Of course, larger cities, and more desirable areas are going to cost more. Most mid-sized cities are going to be relatively affordable, though.

Median home value in Kalispell is 180k. Is that what you mean?

Well I don't understand it and it makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong.
I bought a $175k house, put 10% down, have $20k in student loans. I have two vehicles but both are old and paid for and insurance on them is cheap, and frick I feel like I'm broke even though I'm pumping money into my 401k and company stock benefit shite. All my friends have all this super expensive shite and are steadily buying more of it while simultaneously taking about buying more shite.
Either everybody's parents gives them money and mine didn't, I'm just an idiot, or they're living check to check on $90k a year.
If the last one is the case, obviously the banks are comfortable loaning money to millineals.
