Thanks a ton, I am wondering if it is still happening.

Absolutely is. We went through around 1 or so and noticed that the drains were beginning to back up. Went back to just check it out again around 5 and there was much more water, completely submerging the turning lane on Bluebonnet next to Albertsons. Then on our final trip through at around 8:00 or so it was so flooded that cars were being forced to avoid the right hand lane and many people were cutting through the entrance to La Caretta and cutting through Albertsons parking lot out to Burbank. Definite increase in water levels throughout the day.

Our storage unit is underwater. Our entire life is in there are we are building now. Everything. Wedding albums, my baby's keepsakes, certificates, my first flute (incredibly sentimental), all my furniture, grandmothers China, my childhood photos, tigerband box full of memories. I'm trying not to be upset bc people have lost their homes, but it's all of our belongings.

Does anyone know if in Ascension parish new river canal is expected to rise or is it not connected to the back losing waterways? I know they use pumps but I'm ignorant on this.

Super - I have a question.

WAFB was reporting that Manchac was supposed to crest at 1:00 a.m. Am I wrong in assuming that means that the flood plains of Jones Creek and Claycut Bayou have maxed out in terms of water levels (additional rain notwithstanding)?

Actually, while it is cresting, significant amount of water could be backing up on the Jones Creek/Claycut Bayou area. But yes, after the crest passes, that water will eventually stop building back up and flow out. The thing you need to realize is that it is not instantaneous. It is like a traffic jam. When the water begins to fall from its crest, it could still further upstream be building up and increasing height. It doesn't react instantly.

Honestly? I know this is a terrible event, but flood insurance is not that expensive if your house was not in a flood zone. You cannot expect the government to fully reimburse you for the full value of your home.
