We are on S Pollard, backing up to Christian Life. Drove over to Dahlia yesterday but couldn't get through and everyone we saw said they were ok on help, and saw today it had receded. We had water over 5 feet deep on our yard but we are up a hill. Where are you?

Can we get a sticky for all the types of relief that's available, details on who qualifies, for how much, and where the forms are?

The water at Highland/Siegen has steadily been rising all day. It seems to be rising quicker over the past hours.

I don't know about Somersby directly, but that area of Tiger Bend and everything to the South was underwater. Tiger Bend at Antioch was like 6-8 feet deep.

Boss lives on somersby. He got water in his house. Not sure how much though. He left and went to a hotel.

Exactly so it is all relative. So the area around burbank and staring is at "18" which means it is 3 feet higher than I-10 and manchac. How will it possibly get 3 more feet of water if I-10 and manchac doesnt budge?

It makes sense. If the drainage basin for the area is ultimately designed to flow to the Amite River (hence all the backflow discussion), that area is further down the drainage line would set up for a higher elevation with regards to flooding. This is what I don't understand completely - they may not be a higher elevation overall, but they are somehow higher on the hierarchy of drainage

That's exactly what wafb said too of the backflow flooding. It would start to go down Sunday then start to creep back up Sunday night and Monday morning. Eerie sign for us on bayou fountain

I actually think you are reading the map wrong. The squiggly line - numbers are the base flood elevation for a 100 year flood. It doesn't mean that the water level will be at that footage to cause flooding - it means that points below whatever number listed will flood whereas points above will not. It lets you determine if your property, which may have relatively higher ground than surrounding property, is prone to flooding and lets you know how high you have to build.

Exactly so it is all relative. So the area around burbank and staring is at "18" which means it is 3 feet higher than I-10 and manchac. How will it possibly get 3 more feet of water if I-10 and manchac doesnt budge?

The area around Burbank and Staring is "18" meaning that if your house is at 17 feet, it will flood during the same flood that keeps the area around I/10 and Manchac dry at 15 feet.

It has to do with how narrow or wide the flood swath is. To answer your question, if I-10 and Manchac doesn't budge (although it is budging right now, as seen here: LINK ), then that 18' point on Burbank and Staring still has all of that uphill water coming at it. If it cannot drain (cannot budge), it will spill over into all of the low areas that are lower than 18' in that area.

We were in boat around Santa Maria coming from Alexander's. We didn't go past there and it was dark but it looked like it went on a long ways. Sorry. So sorry.

That area is incredibly low. Woodlawn Acres, which is right next to Somersby was one of the first BR neighborhoods to flood.

Bellerive Court. No pics just text but house is at 2o ft and it's around 19 ft now. Six inches in last 40 mins per text.

This is my logic too. And if I-10 at manchac isnt getting worse how would the areas upstream?

I'm not saying it can't go up a little. But to the point where bluebonnet and burbank or burbank and lee are significantly impacted?? thats a big leap

The Great Flood of 2016: Backflow Flooding Occuring (8/14/16)
The water at Highland/Siegen has steadily been rising all day. It seems to be rising quicker over the past hours.

Any more pictures, Impotent? And that matches what we are seeing in the gauges. That it is rising there really makes me think it's only certain that it will rise at Bluebonnet/Highland/Siegen.

We're on the high side of Hyacinth, there is a good 15-20' between our front threshold and the level of the water that was in the ditch behind the houses.

Real time, the water has done nothing but recede since the flash floods. I asked for some projections for this area earlier and got no response. But from what I can tell, it's so far up the drainage basin, that a significant portion of South Baton Rouge would have to have to flood before the backflow reached this neighborhood
