Any thoughts on why it looks like Bayou Manchac has stopped rising? Just a reading error?

depends on how much it goes over but yes it would go through the neighborhoods on the side of albertsons and then move onto the side of walmart and neighborhoods back there

Burbank would dam it off and keep the water between it and highland if it doesn't get too high... BUT, after checking the flood map, it shows water beyond Burbank, towards the river is a possibility

I saw in FB they are trying to get in touch with someone to get Costco open for supplies. Not sure if it was successful.

East Baton Rouge Parish public works or engineer should be all over this. Whoever handles the drainage in the parish (is it outsourced to a private firm?) should be telling people about this backflow situation.

I worked on the private side, but had tons of dealing with DPW's drainage side of the house. They are a joke. Don't expect anything from them.

If Bayou Fountain overflows, how rar south would its flooding reach?
It's really difficult to say. Again, the magic number is 21.5 because that's the forecasted crest where these watersheds connect with the Amite. But the dynamics of this backflow are difficult to predict without a hydraulic/hydrologic model and study. The water actually has to move up through these creeks and bayous, which takes time. Will it get all the way up to 21.5 there? I have no idea. When will it peak and start to fall? I have no idea.

Wouldn't everything between Highland and the Miss. River essentially be a woup bowl of water? Or would Burbank keep all the water between Highland and Burbank?
As far as I can tell it's all hydraulically connected, so it would be a soup bowl of water all the way to the levee.

That's good. I was thinking of going to Costco when they opened and buying some basic supplies for them

Just talked to my dad who confirmed what appears to be backflow happening in Azalea Lakes (Hoo Shoo Too/Old Jeferson). Said the lake drain is flowing back into lake right now.

Anything going on with Clay Cut? In particular around Woman's Hospital and Jefferson Terrace?

I can't believe how horrible this seems to be from reading all of the stories on here and watching WAFB. What is fricked up is I would have no idea what is going on if I wasn't on this site, the MSM hasn't made a peep about it. On CNN.com, MSNBC.com, FoxNews.com there there is nothing.....it is unreal.

It was the lead story on the CBS Evening News last night, with a live report from Hammond.

Just imagine a vascular network. Regardless of Burbank, all of those areas are connected by canals and pipes. Burbank will not function as a dam. Not to mention that water would also be coming up the from the SE from Manchac on the south side of Burbank.

Saw this on the Facebook page for the flood rescue, just so people know, but apparently a law was passed after Katrina that required all shelters to accept pets as well (in times of disaster). So they cannot turn you away if you have your pets.

Right, it's all hydraulically connected, especially since the flood wave is coming UP from downstream...

In theory this would all equalize at 21.5 since that's the forecasted crest where these watersheds connect to the Amite. But it's more dynamic than that, since it takes time for the flows to move through. So there's no telling how high and when the water will go up.
