coming out of the storm drains and just flooded the street - where are you?
I think he was off Old Jefferson. So Where 73 and 948 meet on your map and heading north up 73 would concern me. Continuing south down 73 will see this backwater effect first though.
That's concerning. So a TD user basically said that water was coming out of his storm drains, apparently in Old Jefferson, and it filled the street with water very quickly. Remember how I said we are watching the gauge at Manchac Point - the crest has not reached there yet (shown by the x). There is another point further up stream where Clay Cut Bayou flows into. Technically if backwater flooding were to occur, we should see it happen there before any backwater flooding for most of Baton Rouge along Bayou Fountain and Ward Creek happens.
Backwater flooding would be basically water flowing backwards (as indicated by the red arrow). This basically means, water flowing OUT where it is supposed to be flowing IN, and in this case, water flowing out of storm drains flooding streets would meet that definition.
So here is the gauge for this user's location:
https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=lix&gage=cbal1
That's a jarring rise in water levels. I would certainly say people along Clay Cut Bayou are under the gun right now. It will be a while until Manchac Point crests, but if Clay Cut is already experiencing backwater flooding at only 16-17' on the Amite, then said flooding could be extensive along Bayou Fountain.

I have friends that live on hwy 73 and 621 near the interstate in ascension parish. Is there any threat of flooding whatsoever for them?
So far they've been completely fine with power, air conditioning, and working cable and internet. Hope it stays that way for them.

I am sitting here in central. Flooding on every side. But still have power and cable. I still can't figure out why it hasn't gone out

Anybody know how bad 55 is washed out at the state line? Couldn't tell by the pic but it looked like the entire right lane was gone

And in the midst of all the flooding... 15-20 shots fired at Jackson Square Apartments in BR.

As scary as that sounds. I really appreciate your explanations man. It really helps me understand how this stuff works.

Anyone know how the timing of backflow would occur. I live next to Bayou Fontaine, but it is about 3 feet below my house level at the moment. If it is going to occur overnight, I'd rather take the kids and go somewhere safer.

Go be fat and terrible somewhere else

I have some family sitting in a car on the I-12 overpass at Juban... Anyway to get to them from Baton Rouge or Ascension?

Crazy and depressing day. Spent the last 8 hours plucking people out of their homes with my boat along Frenchtown. There were 20-30 boats out there that rescued 100's of people. Some houses with water up over the roof. The water rose at least 3' since noon. Only video I got was W&F airboats running down one part of the road that we could pass in outboards. There are no words for the complete devastation I witnessed today

That was not I-55 in the picture

Don't think so. I am in a neighborhood just north on 73 and there aren't even standing puddles on our streets

Shut the frick up Paul. This is serious life changing business for Louisiana folks. Get the frick out.
My aunt and uncle just lost their house in central and I just found out 30 minutes ago. And I never thought it would happen. They're devastated and my dad is trying to get them home here in ascension.
