Anyone know of groups going out and helping rescue? I just went where the radio said was bad today but we got shut down at dark if we didn't have lights on our boat.
Gonna go back out in the morning, just trying to figure out where the best place would be.

Storm Chaser Kelley Williamson got trapped at DH walmart. Had to abandon his chase vehicle and get out by boat. He's headed to a shelter.

I was just north of you on the Bellingrath side. I never thought I'd see anything like that up here. Sure we've had flooding in the past, but I was honestly kinda left speechless. Just got home and took a shower, and feel guilty about doing so. There are a lot of people still out there in need, and a lot of private citizens risking their own lives and property to help them. That is Louisiana and who we are. Please send prayers for all of those still out there.

I put together one last picture.
The red X is currently where the crest is, probably a little south of that.
Here is the gauge
Just so that we are clear for all of the people learning new terms, a crest is the highest point in a river flood. It moves down river like a big bulge of water.
You can see it reaching its peak in the above gauge.
The red lines are where obvious backwater flow is occurring. The red dashed lines are where backwater flooding is beginning. The blue lines are where normal flow is taking place and so it has "drained" ahead of the crest, making it seem like the water has gone down for good.
Here is an example of a place near that area, near the crest, where water is flowing high in a backwater creek type situation.
Then we have the backwater flooding confirmed on Bayou Clay cut - that is going to work its way all the way up to the 10/12 split eventually.
Then of course we have the point that we are watching, Manchac/Amite. That is the blue X. That is the most important gauge. When that gauge goes up, if backwater flooding is to occur, we will see it on all of the upstream gauges in Bayou Fountain one after the other.
Here is the gauge for the blue X that we are watching that could lead to extensive backwater flooding.
The good news is, we will have advanced warning by watching all of the gauges on Clay Cut, and then the early gauges on Fountain
I personally believe backwater flooding has already started and is heading up (slowly) Bayou Fountain. But such backwater flooding won't peak until the crest reaches that blue x.
I base this on reports from Old Jefferson plus some of the gauges, especially this gauge:
Gauge showing skyrocketing water levels on Bayou Mancac that leads into the Amite, the first gauge that would have backwater flooding leading into the Amite from Bayou Fountain.
