Was backflow taken into account as far as the original projections?
Anybody know?

Bayou fountain by bluebonnet is at 13.51 it was going down but the last few hours it has been rising.

Is there anyone that lives in this area that can tell us what the water is doing?
Also, that person who said that water was coming out of the storm drains and just flooded the street - where are you? That would be a perfect example of how backwater flooding works.

LSUSilverfox - Ward Creek was surprisingly resilient today - I was terrified of it at my locale, but it stayed put and only flooded slightly over its banks. Still, that was from flash flooding, not river flooding (which we will get when the Amite crests at Manchac Point)

After we evacuated, I went back to my house to get a few things we couldn't carry out initially and to take the dog out back to do her business. The rain had stopped and I was there about 30 minutes. The water actually went down about 3/4 of an inch while I was there, below the level of my front porch. Glad to see that. Hopefully it will drop more (enough) and give us more buffer to handle the rain coming later tonight.
We've been lucky compared to so many others.

I think he was off Old Jefferson. So Where 73 and 948 meet on your map and heading north up 73 would concern me. Continuing south down 73 will see this backwater effect first though.

Runnels auditorium has at least 6 feet of water in it. Just got the pics.

For anyone that wants context, this is the gauge they are talking about:

I would not say this is backwater flooding from the Amite though, the Amite crest has not reached the Manchac Point yet. It could be a slowing down of outflow though which is problematic in and of itself.
Again I'll point to exactly how we will be able to tell if the Amite is flowing backwards:
This will be the first gauge that backwater flooding will be seen. It is already happening here:
LINK
This next gauge will show backwater flooding:

Also happening.
Then this one:
LINK
POSSIBLY happening. I am keeping a close eye on that one. If it starts to spike, then we know backwater flooding is occurring.
Finally here... if you see this spike, Baton Rouge is in for trouble:

It definitely went down over the course of the day. But like you say the real impact may not be here yet.

Very good. Thanks for info. I'll keep an eye on those.
Also just for reference if it hits around 16 I'm getting the eff out of here. However I doubt it gets to that height. That would mean an additional 3 feet of water. I just don't see that happening but I guess a lot of stuff has been happening people didn't see coming

God damnit... I was there when they built that thing... hell, I watched the twin towers fall there
Side story: I once walked from Runnels to the Amite river while i was supposed to be in English class... never thought those two would meet
