re: The future of the 8-5, M-F, daily work commute?

The 9-5 will die once all the boomers are out of management and retire. 7-3 will become the norm!!

7-3 is just as bad as 9-5. The goal should be to cut the 40 hour work week. If employees are considered FT at 32 hours, why work an extra 8 for the same benefits?
I’d personally like hours that work around my kids school hours so I can stop paying for after care.

walmart must be managed by fat bald idiots

Walmart is about to have hundreds fewer people working in corporate offices, and remote workers are being asked to return to offices, a memo shared with associates obtained by FOX Business confirms.
The U.S. retailer is asking workers at offices in Dallas, Atlanta and Toronto to relocate to Walmart's corporate base in Bentonville, Arkansas, a northeast office in Hoboken, New Jersey, or a central hub in Southern California.
The company will allow what is referred to as a hybrid schedule - where employees can work part-time remotely, so long as they are in office for the majority of their work week.

I'm 100% remote so work hours don't exist but for those that do have to be in the office 7-3 is much better. That's all I was getting at.

Good
Being confined to a chair for 40 hours a week is painfully stupid.
The majority of office jobs do not have 40 hours worth of worth and people drag the 3-4 hours of actual work out over the 8 hours of the day they are at work

If you think everyone in a corporation is as productive sitting at home, then you’re wrong.
If you think the team environment, comradery, and collaboration is as good when everyone is sitting in their own world doing the bare minimum…you’re wrong.
Nobody networks or pings ideas with their counterparts at other companies anymore with most regional type meetings/events being virtual.
Things take longer to get done, people are less available than they used to be, individuals take longer to respond, and their is zero social skills with junior employees.
If someone was an above average employee before, they’ve become bare minimal now. If someone was bare minimal before, they’ve fallen to below par.
THESE ARE ALL FACTS.
No they're not and you're wrong about basically every single thing you post.

One thing I love about the freelancing is that I’m home a lot with my dogs.

they also have a TON of real estate that needs to be utilized..
VERY few positions actually require you to sit in a seat, in an office environment and many of the ones left i would imagine are on the way out

It blows my mind the human RACE still exists. Billions of humans leaving there homes at the same time to clog highways and interstates day after day, year after year, decade after decade is baffling to me. Leaving our homes to do things we dread with people we really don't like, amost everyday for decades! How have we gotten to this point and is it finally beginning to change?

These “adults” are the first ones that get laid off too.
No they’re not. At least not in my situation, but then again I know how to do my job and I do it very well. I’ve survived three rounds of layoffs in the past three years and I’ve been a remote worker since 2019.

Just because it’s not true for you doesn’t mean it’s not a thing. Sorry it doesn’t fit your narrative. Congrats on surviving layoffs

There are many companies out there making an absolute killing with a 100% remote workforce. It’s very doable if you hire adults.
Managing people is the secret to success for a business that requires people. The problem is that management tends to come from yes men among us, kin folks and simply people with no ambition who stick around for years. They do the same shite over and over and wonder why it didn't work. Well managed companies are going to have a helluva recruiting advantage going forward and people will work for less who do not have to commute.
That said we all best watch out...if your job in New York can be done from Alabama, for instance, there is usually no reason it can't be done from India. Short of some sort of security concern tele work can be done from anywhere....for a lot less than it takes to survive in the United States.

My BIL is the president of an advertising company with about 50 employees. Almost all of the employees are college graduates between 23-60 years old.
He would rather have everyone come into the office to work but he says “I have to have at least 3 work from home days per week, because the employees I really need can go other places that do allow work from home.”

Seems like he isn’t really calling the shots

I know a few people who have companies putting in mandatory 3x week in the office and they are all interviewing with competitors to stay remote.

Yeah, give me the 7-3. I'll be up anyway. That's pretty close to what I work now most days.

Hmmm, I'd take 6-2 honestly. Hell, I'd take 5-1 if I was able to WFH.
