It seems this business model is going away. Especially with office workers. People simply don't like leaving their homes, commuting for 30-45 minutes, working 9-10 hours, and coming back home about 12 hours later after they left.

I'm not necessarily pro or against it. Not everyone is capable of managing their schedule and being productive without being in a physicial location for a certain amount of time. So I get why employers want their employees at work, and not at home fricking off.

For jobs that can, I think you'll see a hybrid model, and once these companies can get out of the big building leases, more satellite offices. Companies are also starting to base more trainings off the remote style we have, honestly with mixed results. It's so much easier for managers to punt on training and just do it themselves.

As a manager if you come to me with that complaint, I will grant your wish. Trust me.

Hybrid work is not some game changing theory that the US came up with over the last few years..

Our reliance on real estate and filling those buildings, caused the commute to sit epidemic..

as the boomers get out of the power positions, you'll see more building leased out to other corps or empty all together..

The biggest push against the work from home model is the billions of dollars that are tied up in corporate real estate properties that are rendered essentially worthless without people working in those properties.

Those are some rich, powerful and connected people who stand to lose a ton on those properties - and they will fight to keep that structure in-place to keep those dollars rolling in.

A lot of people are incapable of working from home effectively long term. They lack self motivation and time management. Unfortunately most employers will set their standards by the lowest common denominator, and not set different standards for different levels of employees. More people will stay in the office than expected

There are many companies out there making an absolute killing with a 100% remote workforce. It’s very doable if you hire adults.

There are mechanisms for monitoring and managing this remotely. You have to have clear performance expectations and cut people loose when they don’t meet them.

I think a hybrid model will become pretty standard eventually. A 4 day work week will be the next thing that becomes more common.

Not having a physical office unless absolutely necessary is an easy way to cut costs as well. Do you really need your auto insurance agent to have an office that you ultimately pay for with your premium?

There’s just as much time wasted in an office setting with socializing and bullshite, it’s all about if management is effective and implementing good time management practices, people can get just as many real hours of work in at home, even if it’s more broken up

I'm for a trade off, either you have to work an hour more per day when TWing or you get paid more if you go into the office.

I haven't been back in the office 5 days per week since 2020. It has its negatives and positives. Granted, I live 4 miles from the office and had already been there almost 10 years when this started.

A lot of what people cite as benefits of being in office are just sanctioned screwing off:

- team building
- social events
- togetherness
