When you've made a living planting guns and drugs on suspects, and confiscating/stealing money and property from people who haven't been convicted of crimes, what's a little kiddie porn here and there?

There has to be a better way to catch these people.

Law enforcement is victimizing kids to catch people that want to victimize kids in the exact same way.

The kids had already been victimized. The FBI didn't create the stuff. They used it to catch sickos then shut it down.

wonder if the parents of these kids gave the FBI permission to use nude pictures of their kids for a sting operation.

Imagine if your child had been abducted or lured by a sexual deviant and filmed or photographed, and then you found out the FBI was posting these images of your child on the web for other perverts to download and distribute!

Serious question, if the people in the photos or videos are being victimized when someone downloads them, then how is it not also a crime when law enforcement does it?

Seems they should use adults that look young. At least then you get the perps on your radar.

Read the story. The images were already on the web. The FBI took over the site and then left it up for two weeks to catch a bunch of pervs then shut it down.

That's stupid. Cops don't make people search for and download kiddie porn.

This!!! One of the few things in life I actually have an expertise on is working these type of cases. I did so for 13 years before I retired almost 5 years ago.

Right off the top of my head, I can think of at least a half-dozen other ways to have worked this case without ever having an image of a child used to get this case prosecuted.

You don't ever revictimize the children-no matter what. Unless laws have changed since April 2012 (I pray to God they haven't), it was against the law for LE to post CP under any circumstance. Hell, our unit worked out of a bunker and only those assigned to the unit (you needed local/state/fed credentials) could be there. Our bosses couldn't even enter due to the sensitive nature of what we were viewing.

Yeah I don't understand it at all. The policy is that the sharing/production of CP HURTS children. So why would you do this?!

as icky as it sounds, i truly believe virtual child porn should be the focus for how we rehabilitate/contain these people

A bullet to the brain would be more effective IMO.

It's a thought, but the problem is that it's generally accepted that pornography desensitizes us and eventually becomes ineffective. The more you're exposed to it, the more likely it won't be enough.

I'm with you, though. You're dealing with physical attraction. It's something so personal and ingrained it's impossible to separate from the person. How can you stop it? Imprison them for life? If not, how do you protect the kids? Maybe virtual is the way to go.

Ok, but the FBI allowed the site to continue, which means that for two more weeks, untold amount of perves were able to download pictures or videos of underage children. Still not very comforting or moral in my opinion.

I don't give a shite how people interested in child porn are caught. It could be as illegal as possible and I'm still cool with it.

I think they can tell when someone opens the link then immediately closes it out vs someone who frequents it.

I hope they look at that at least but you never know.

If these kids had already been victimized and there is no further damage by sharing the images, why is possession of child porn illegal and not just production of it?

So is it cool if I download and re-upload copyrighted music, movies, etc. to a bunch of torrent websites because they already exist on the internet somewhere anyway?

There is a Grand Canyon-sized distinction your analogy is ignoring.
