re: The epitome of fall weddings is this weekend

I had a wedding for the Kentucky game last week, I’m in a weeding for the auburn game next week and bro In-law is getting married during bama game. All of these are home games.
I’m in 2 and have to go to brother in law. So y’all ain’t got it that bad.

I never know the right answer to how to feel about these things. Yes, the wedding is obviously more important, yes, I’m going to the wedding over watching the game, and yes, ultimately it’s your day not mine so I don’t really get a say in when you choose to have it… but knowing that I’m going to feel a strong obligation to attend and clear the schedule for it, you really mean to tell me you HAD to pick a fall Saturday for it? And not one where there’s a bye week or a shitty non-conference opponent no one cares about?
Okay, sure, if you really had to do it… but my experience is that in many of these cases they didn’t, and the brides were often fully aware of what they were doing and chose to do it anyway, made no effort to accommodate a pretty universally enjoyed cultural event that only comes around on fall Saturdays.
You’d be an a-hole to skip the wedding, obviously, and you shouldn’t, but the fact that that’s true would make me want to be considerate of your obligation to come, if I were the one scheduling.

does your brother know his wife is marrying someone else? Are they all gonna live in the same house?

You have to live with your wife.

Great time to make one of those Covid-19 tests show positive...

Tell her you'll only go if you get a blowjob beforehand

Say you have diarrhea.
Weddings SUCK and no one should be forced to attend one ever.

Late to this and I’m sure what I’m about to say has been said multiple times, but it bears repeating.
Adults that plan their lives completely around sports and lambast others for not doing the same are pathetic.

Skipped a wedding for Auburn.
Wasn't looking like a good decision there for awhile....

You’d probably rather go to a gay wedding since you still watch football after all the kneeling

I don’t plan my life around sports but there are plenty of weddings I’ve been to where I’d rather be doing just about anything else

Stop watching football for a little while and you will realize how insignificant that shite is.
If you want to go down that rabbit hole you can say that about everything in life.
We decide what is significant to us, be it explicitly or implicitly.
We don't get to control the consequences from that decision.
The world has way too many people who have their priorities messed up, or don't want to face the consequences from them.

My entire Fall weekends used to be planned around various kickoff times. Changed that along with a few other things in my life. I now usually don’t even know who we’re playing until I start getting game text.
Same. And I've found that my life is much happier. Mostly because I can enjoy the victories, but not have my weekend ruined over the defeats.
I used to love CFB, but COVID is when things started going off the rails for my interest in it. Everybody and their grandmother knew that 2020 season had a giant friggin asterisk hanging over it. Because I didn't put any stock in the results of that season, I didn't put as much stock in watching the games themselves. I couldn't believe how much happier and stress-free my life was during that fall. I still enjoyed going to a handful of tailgates and games, but I just stopped giving a shite about who won. It was fantastic.
Then NIL came along and my interest came crashing down like a deck of cards. It's just not the same game that I used to watch back in the 90s and 2000s. Yeah, recruiting was dirty, but at least it had to stay discreet. Now we're not even pretending anymore; this is semi-pro football now, and I have little interest in who wins.
I'll watch the big games, and I still enjoy the social aspect of the sport. But no longer will I get irrationally angry because some 19-year-old who I've never met dropped a game-winning catch.

Did she just plan the wedding yesterday? Then you shouldn't be expected to go.
Have you known about this for a while but were too wimpy to do anything about it? Welcome to the consequences of your own inaction. Enjoy the wedding.

I enjoy watching football, but the lengths people go to watch an overall meaningless game is insane to me. There are people who will ruin their relationships to watch a game.

Covid taught me that football as a fan is a waste of time.
Enjoy time with family then catch a game when you can.

Like how much of a bitch do you have to be to plan a wedding on a home weekend of lsu football.
That’s being a cvnt
Eh. I would never do it personally because I have too many football fan friends, but there are tons of people who are hardly even aware football is going on during the fall much less aware of schedules and days.
If you didn't grow up in a football-fan family, those things don't occur to you. I wouldn't automatically assume a fall Saturday means someone is a bad person.

This is our household now, and I love it.
I do not at all miss the days of my weekend being lame because he's mad we had a bad loss. Or the days of revolving my entire weekend over having to get to/from campus on Saturday. Or someone scaring the shite out of the sleeping pets screaming at a play.
