Quit dipping after 40 years.

Started with lossenges for a week to fight the urge. They were nasty.
Supplemented with Peppermint, Sunflower seeds and Beef Jerky dip (expensive).
I still use about a case of sunflower seeds a month...They cost about $13 per case on Amazon for the plain ones.
I've gained about 30 pounds.

I finally realized I was spending 3k a year on the habit and while I could afford that, it really wasn't worth it.

Used to fricking chain vape like a fiend. It truly is a 3 day “death” for the little monster. I can say I’ve never craved another hit of nicotine after that 3 day window after reading Carr. It’s the best way to frame your mind because it really is EASY.
. I had the same exact experience. Like being hypnotized.

That's how Mel Gibson stopped (said so in JRE this week)

pack a day smoker for 25 years turned Juul cartridge addict here for the last five or so. The vape got me off the lung darts at least but consuming way more nicotine and money on the juul.

we spent the last five days in Cancun on a resort. I lost the juul pen within hours of arrival. No chance of replacement that was doable. So I toughed it out and still am…on day six cold turkey

I obviously think about it pretty much all day but there’s weirdly no physical symptoms…I’m not and haven’t been twitching or flipping out at all. I do not have an overwhelming urge to go get a fix.

absolutely not what I expected and I’ve tried to quit many times. So my advice to anyone is…quit in a way that it is impossible for you to cheat, especially for the first few days

I was able to quit after getting the worst case of (not Covid) flu. Promised my girlfriend (now wife) that my New Year's resolution was to stop smoking. I smoked up until midnight. Woke up the next morning with a respiratory infection and cough and feeling hungover and just, well, terrible! It took me nearly three weeks to get over it. I could barely breathe, so no way I could smoke.

Finally got well enough to leave my home. Put on a jacket, vand there was an open pack of cigs. No idea how old. A month or more, most likely. I thought, "Hmm? One can't hurt."

It tasted like licking an astray! It was awful. Haven't smoked since, so, that's 26 years, 11-1/2 months.

The only thing that helped me quit was this book. Every cigarette or dip makes you want more. In three days you will be a free man.

The audiobook was a bit easier to digest. It helped me get my mind in the right place to quit. I had tried Chantix unsuccessfully a couple times and still had the pills. Refocused my mind, did chantix for one week and then stopped everything and without much problem, but it wasn’t necessarily “easy”.

Quitting still required plenty of self-talk and frequent reinforcement for about 3 weeks, and then randomly thereafter until all thoughts of use ended at around 6 months. Never had another serious thought or craving since, going on about 6 years.

I quit smoking Marijuana by switching to THC gummies for a month. Got to a point where I didn't even crave those anymore.

I haven't smoked or used any form of Marijuana in over 3 months. I never crave or have the desire to do it now. My mind is so much clearer now.

I quit smoking tobacco over 10 years ago. Vaped occasionally when I drank but stopped a few years ago.

I'm straight edge now. I don't even consider myself a drinker. I have a beer a few times a year as a social thing when I meet up with a friend I haven't seen in a while.

What is this method that keeps you from smoking/vaping? Is it like a motivational thing you read? Kinda interested. Never heard of this before.

When the heart doctor said we need to put two stents in the widowmaker 9 1/2 years ago I stopped putting smoke of any kind in my lungs. Now I have great heart and lung health.

I realize that none of us are getting out of here alive, but I chose to reduce my risk factors and possibly prolong my expectancy…

It’s 4:15pm. The withdrawal pangs have been in me all day. My mouth feels dry, but isn’t. It’s like I need to be drinking water all day and I already stay hydrated. Maybe not enough. Still going strong…the book/audiobook have helped A LOT.
