We scrutinize gambling to this level when alcohol has the same adverse effects and that's perfectly fine.

Legalize it, if you frick up, personal accountability...that's your issue to deal with.

Stop letting the government telling you can't do shite that is a victimless crime. Gambling and losing all your money is not a crime. Depleting your household savings and going bankrupt is not a crime. Let people do that if that's how it goes down.

Some poor decisions create externalities, even if the act itself has no clear victim.

I've seen enough Montana geezers spend their SS checks sitting in front of a reel machine every day to reconsider my stance on at least some forms of gambling.
You good with the government also telling everyone they can't drink alcohol or eat any and all unhealthy foods?

Same logic applies there, so why are those ok, but gambling isn't?

If they are receiving welfare funds to drink or eat unhealthily, yes.

If they are using their own hard earned cash to do it without subsisting on taxpayer funds, eat and drink all you want.

None of them are if society is supporting or subsidizing their lifestyle.

We never should have legalized gambling of any kind. Gambling should be run by criminals in back rooms instead of corporations on an app in our homes.

Government is too greedy for that

My post was sarcasm baw.

I'd agree to that.

Not really the topic being discussed, so my question still stands

If gambling is bad and has to be illegal because of all the other stuff that happens once someone's life goes to shite from gambling, why aren't those same posters wanting alcohol and unhealthy food banned?

All of that shite has been known about gambling since the first bet was placed centuries ago.

Just don't use tax dollars for "rehab."

What? Those frickers are going to start feeding on the government tit by the millions. That means more money from the responsible.

That is not a reason that gambling should be illegal.

That is a reason that the welfare system is too lenient and needs an overhaul.

If I was guaranteed that I'd never directly or indirectly have to pay more for those losers I wouldn't care.
Do you like to have an occasional beer or drink?

Do you like eating whatever the frick you want?

Or would you be ok with your government telling you alcohol is now illegal and so are ALL unhealthy foods?

Because there is zero difference in gambling and those 2 things, so I assume you're good with your government controlling you in all of those ways too?

Would be hypocritical to want one banned but not the others given the specific reasons you outlined apply to the others, and MUCH more so as well.

If the latter actually happened, I would not support the former.

Heavy betting is likely impulsive addictive behavior. Had one in my family. It does destroy wealth. We all have vices though.

It should be like cigarettes, legal but not encouraged. Not advertised as glamorous, fun, sexy.
This, same with pharmaceutical commercials.

Weekend of Bengals Super Bowl, deposited $50 to get the maximum free bets.

Struck out on all the bets I made, got 5x $50 bets for my trouble.

Hit a wild (but reasonable) 3 leg soccer parlay with the last of those and won $1900.

Put $1800 in my bank account, still playing off the remaining $100.

I guess they thought I would keep chasing the dragon,
They had zero thoughts as to what you'd do.

They KNOW that the majority of folks do not do what you do, so you doing that is a blip on the radar for them compared to all the people who do hit the same type of parlays and keep gambling all those winnings away.

Yes and no. Gambling is an addiction just like nicotine or alcohol. And just like with those substances, addiction creates external problems for society. Bankruptcy costs creditors money. DV speaks for itself. When these internal problems become externalized, society, through government, has an obligation to protect itself.
So are for banning gambling, nicotine, alcohol and unhealthy foods?

The amount of people that are clamoring for the government to tell them all these things they can or cannot do is...wild.

But it's not victimless. It negatively impacts many people, not just the ones gambling their money away.

No different than the degenerates plowing quarters in a slot machine all day. Gambling is gambling. I’m neither for or against it, but saying sports betting is worse than the rest is just some dumb liberal stupidity.

quit betting on the home teams, pick your games wisely. and don’t chase the game.

be patient and find the underdog games the most:

if you can get Teasers in NFL +6, that’s one of the best bets around.

and never bet the understand unless it’s 2 stout defenses, and even then, it’s always a nut cruncher.

Problem is that they’ll soon classify it as a disease and we all will end up paying for their rehab.
