Not if their income is still above benefit levels.

There are people with a gambling addiction who also work a FT job to feed said addiction.

There will he those don't maintain it.

If I was guaranteed that I'd never directly or indirectly have to pay more for those losers I wouldn't care.

Sports gambling requires certain skills that most degen gamblers do not possess: patience, selectivity, discipline, dogged research, plus a keen intuition.

To someone who actually clicked on the article(not giving The Atlantic clicks), why is legalized sports gambling worse that illegal sports gambling? Are they making an argument that it's better to have gangsters in charge of books as opposed to publicly traded companies?

The thing that bothers me the most about sports betting is the incessant commercials for it.

Probably shouldn’t have legalized credit cards in that case

There’s a reason why our ancestors discouraged it

It's crushed my finances this last month. I ended up in 2022 by like $5k and hit those playoff SGPs and ended up like $15k last season so started this year off super aggressive. Now down $8k since LSU game through yesterday and will have to withdraw from etrade to pay. Have not hit a significant bet all season. SGPs are the devil because even when I have what would have been "good weeks" in the past, now they are losers when I don't hit any SGPs. NFL weeks 1 and 2 fell into these buckets for me. Saints loss to Eagles crushed me and LSU loss to USC crushed me as wel

If you are withdrawing from E*trade to pay off gambling debts, you are betting more than you can afford

One thing is guaranteed amongst sports bettors: they are adults with morbid obesity who wear jerseys. Sad and pitiful, yet hilarious.

And it's not an addiction

I used to work at a casino. I think it's safe to say the people who played at my table for my whole shift and went back to the atm every time they ran out of cash are addicted. Yes, it's their choice at first, but for these people their brains react the same as drug addicts when they get high
