Carolina pigeons might be useful. And edible.
Dodo's might also be edible.
Then there are the horse family with different hoof alignments.

Animals go extinct for a reason. We don't need to bring back things that were already culled from the Earth.

Would own one before I owned a pit bull

We're making mammoths next. When the Chinese recreate Megalodons and they start attacking our submarines some people will actually be surprised and dumbfounded by how it could have ever happened.

No, WE aren't.

On the flip side, bringing back actual dire wolves before Winds of Winter has been completed is pretty hilarious

Bringing back a huge predatory beast that went extinct for reasons not even related to human activity.
I smell some Bill Gates population reduction motive.

They weren't much bigger than gray wolves. And humans very well could have played a part in their extinction.

Should’ve gotten on the damn Ark, then.

I don't think we're bringing them back into the wild. It's a scientific achievement that has widespread potential uses. I am sure they'll be taken care of in a conservation type area. I haven't read more on this, but are they fixed? I assume so?

What it looks like now

Awesome! We can "de-extinctify" animals now. So, f*ck the snail-darter fish and the spotted owl for impeding progress with water usage in California and logging in Oregon. If they die out we can just "de-extinctify" them. This'll make an eco-lefty's head explode!

It's just a matter of time before a group of idiots wants to reintroduce them into the wild.
Never mind that 80 percent of megafauna "prey" went extinct at the same time they did. If they were gonna bring back something cool I'd like to see the short face bear, giant sloth or giant armadillo. Some really weird stuff.
They have found dna from tons of animals in the permafrost so it's just a matter of time
