The 80s were awesome!!! Nothing like it is now. Kids played outside until dark, didn’t have to worry about any type of SJW/LGBTXYZ bullshite, there was still a since of virtue, and pride in the US, and the politics(other than the USSR) took a backseat to living life.

Pretty much the exact opposite of what it is now. If you wanted to learn something you either bought a magazine, or went to the library. If you wanted to hang out with your friends you either called them on a land line with the risk of someone else picking up, met them at the mall, or rode your bike to their house.

Greatest time to be alive as a kid!! Awesome movies that still had good story line, and real people as the storm troopers, MTV actually played music videos, and big tech/government wasn’t trying to totally control your life!!

We said the Pledge, and a prayer everyday at the beginning of school, and had god in our lives..

Now days suck compared to back then. My kids even say so and their not even into their teens yet!!

miss 1980. Simpler times. Didnt give a shite about politics, the news, or having bills. I was 8-9 and a good Friday night was having a friend sleep over, gettin some Burger King, playin Atari, throwing the Nerf football around, and watchin them Duke boys makin a fool outta Sheriff Roscoe and Boss Hogg

You and I are about the same age. Exactly the same thing for me on a Friday night. Great times.

In 1980 I was 14 years old. Trust me, this world was a MUCH better place. Older guys like me have already pointed out why in this thread.

5th grade for me back in 1980.

Once a month our teacher would let us bring a record to play 1 song each.
I brought Rapper's Delight and the place went wild.

No way. Culture is way different now. 40’s-80’s gave rights to people that should have always had them like the blacks. Just the last 5 years we giving right to people that don’t deserve them like people changing their sex and wearing masks.

Just the opposite, advances in technology from 1980 to the present are pretty mundane compared to the huge leaps made from 1938 to 1980

Television itself then cable TV, followed by satellite TV
Jet engines
Radar
Discovery of DNA
Medical imaging, MRI, Cat scanner, ultrasound
Vaccines
Antibiotics
The transistor
The integrated circuit,
Lasers
Fiber optics
The computer
Disk drives
Programming languages
Nuclear power
Space flight and it’s spinoffs
Satellites
Plastics and synthetic materials
Supersonic flight
Affordable home air conditioning
Microwave ovens
Advances in manufacturing , farming, and food processing.

Most of the stuff from 1980 on we can live pretty well without. THe internet as we know it today would not be possible without a couple of dozen inventions from the 1940s and 50s.

If you transported from 2022 to 2002 it wouldn’t feel all that different. No smartphones but that’s a good thing.

If you transported from 1980 to 1960 it was a world of difference. They made a hit movie about it, basically.

Looking at year gaps in musical terms is what trips me out the most. If I take a kid from today and make him listen to Metallica’s Kill’em All album, it’s the equivalent of my father trying to make me listen to Benny Goodman, The Andrews Sisters, or Bing Crsoby when I gradated high school in 1984.
