I don't think one day constitutes a trend. Also when you hear reports about the decrease in testing or difficulty in getting tested, the data may not be reliable. I think we can be certain we are testing the worst cases of the diseases and of those the fatality rate is relatively minimal.

It’s this or seriously risk overrunning the hospital system, which is a whole different kind of ugly
you don't think riots risk a similar acute risk? 8 weeks and we may find ourselves there
not to mention the long term health/death issues a recession/depression may cause

Hospitalization rate is the number we should be looking closer at, and it's not about where that number is today but where it will be 2 weeks from now.

the data is not reliable and never has been
we have no idea how many people are infected and won't for a long time. we're going to have to do meta studies

The economic panic will last a while..... It's gonna get worse before it gets better.

It's a bad situation all the way around. As of now I don't see us being on the precipice of anything like that. Hopefully we'll get better news over the next few weeks.

After 30 days like this it will no longer just be a panic. You will start to see a real economic collapse and then the real panic will sink in

it's been a week and most people were still able to have some sort of normalcy
the only real hits are lower level service staff so far
even casino workers got 2 weeks of paid leave
after 2-3 weeks you're going to see mass unemployment start and then it snowballs

hopefully in 2/3 weeks it really will be flattening, we'll have a more developed economic response plan, and there will be a light at the end of the tunnel.

The clusters in New York, Seattle, LA and to a lesser extent cities like New Orleans are creating a huge percentage of the cases
I realize some people love one size fits all reactions but that is not the right call here
There has been a boost in the numbers because testing is starting to finally flow in. Predictably people are trying to take this and extrapolate that we are doomed. Far from it.
The vast majority of flyover country is little touched by the virus. The latest round of testing has driven the rate of positive tests down to 28% in Louisiana. Remember, these are the folks who had to get a doctors permission to be tested in the first place
This isn’t going to be as awful as the CDC predicted. Middle America is going to bounce back first as the cases don’t materialize and the death rate doesn’t explode

8 weeks? It was already starting to pop off in LA 2 nights ago. Chicago and Nola aren't lasting 8 weeks

let me just add again
the single paper being used to defend this policy also said it would take EIGHTEEN MONTHS of a flattened curve to protect hospital capacity
let's say it's not as bad by half. that's 9 months
let's say American ingenuity can mass produce vents and figure out the logistics of critical care beds and cuts it in half
4.5 months
