When i think New Orleans architecture I don’t really think of much Italian influence. Or Irish influence. Though I really don’t know what Irish architecture would look like. I’d figure they’d get drunk halfway through and start fighting so nothing ever got built

Take Newman out of the equation and there are several affordable private schools in the city that are comparable to other private schools around the state and some are even just as much as day care

There’s also a few very good Charter Schools as an option.

How did it change so quickly in such a short span?

New Orleans had more services for the poor and was more tolerant than the rest of the state.

I actually lol'd at this. New Orleans is not expensive at it sucks. This is your back handed way of standing up for your city, like a pothead defending pot. Your city sucks, it is one of the worst in the nation. Just accept that while you may love it, a majority of people dont.

Blacks do have a big impact on the musical and food culture of NO.

For sure, but you can still have an impact without being a majority. Which is what I don't understand about people thinking that the gentrification of New Orleans is going to erase it's culture.

More what the poor irishmen built/dug that was important to the city. New Orleans was the city with the largest Irish population in the south.

And the Italian influence on food in New Orleans in undeniable.

Have you seen this board's definition of "middle class"? It's roughly 100k household income (some consider it less). How are you going to afford a house in the city (not in the ghetto), and to send your kids to private school?

Oh of course and i’m not denying that. I guess the fact that New Orleans is an “old” city by American standards and much of the distinct architecture and influences were there prior to the immigrations of the 1800s makes those influences stand out less in a visible way. Definitely not historically or in the cuisine.

New Orleans is rather expensive if you want to live in a safe/nice neighborhood, and send your kids to good schools. The average home price Uptown is 500k, tuition is going to run ~10k for each kid. You aren't footing that bill if you are "middle class".

nonstop live entertainment, lax drinking laws, loose liberal women, affordable, and they are really making the city bike friendly

if youre a family man, id have my concerns but for me...weeeeee!

Don’t live in the city? You can still send your kids to private schools in Orleans and live in Metairie or Kenner.

How do people do it in other cities?

We found our resident rural retard who’s salty about a confederate monument.

Agreed 100%. But, with that being said, they shouldnt NEED to do that. Go to nearly anywhere else in the US and there is zero need to send your kids to private school. Granted, they usually are much more expensive, but still. Why live somewhere where the norm is counter culture when it comes to education?

Pass. Did you miss where I said I was referring to New Orleans proper? The statement was made that New Orleans is "bad" for a middle class family with kids. In regards to the city itself, that is true.

Why pass on Metairie? Is Metairie just as bad for a middle class family with kids?

Considering some of the black traditions of New Orleans that the city tries to keep on the downlow from the tourism industry, I wouldn’t be squawking that much.
