The Advocate this morning - “Our Views: We urge Baton Rouge voters to reject St. George”

Now, by proposing to create a new city of St. George in the southeastern part of the parish, supporters would reverse the Greatest Generation’s path to progress, creating yet another layer of local government and a new class of elected politicians, with taxpayers footing the cost.
That would be a step back for Baton Rouge, and we urge voters within the prospective boundaries of St. George to reject the proposal to incorporate a new city, which is on the Oct. 12 ballot. Early voting begins Saturday.
quote:
“An incorporation of a large section of East Baton Rouge’s unincorporated area would weaken and threaten the combined form of city-parish government,” BRAC noted.
“The city-parish form of government provides shared and spread risk across a larger population, which has kept costs lower and provided greater access to services across the parish as a whole.”
I love the bolded part in BRAC’s statement. This is the crux of what they are worried about. That “shared and spread risk” translates to the people who have jobs and made something of themselves footing the bill and paying the way for Baton Rouge to piss away the revenue.

I'd be inclined to do the opposite of what the Advocate suggests.

This is like a divorce with one person being clingy.
Cringeworthy fo sho.

Lol I just read it. You could always tell which way the Advocate leaned. Essentially like how CNN leans left but says they present an unbiased view. Now, they are just being blatant about it. I wasn’t old enough to pay attention at the time, but I don’t think Baker, Zachary, or even Central got this much resistance. We must be on to something good with how much government and media have said how wrong we are. Government could care less about its citizens. They are worried about the consolidated government crashing, which it should. Parish should have its own board. Major conflict of interest the way it is structured now.

I'm sure they reached this conclusion after intense study of all the issues involved......

That's not their view this morning. That's been their view for years based on the level of slant and lack of professionalism in their articles on the topic.

Newspaper owned by a Democrat and run by Democrats urging Baton Rouge to think like a Democrat. I miss just reporting the facts.

"But the proposal in the Oct. 12 ballot includes nothing about schools."
Disingenuous motherfrickers.
Perhaps the readers should be provided a explanation as to why it doesn't, and why this current effort to incorporate is because St.G was told to "get a city" first.
And people wonder why I loathe Democrats so much.

frick them. Everyone I know is voting yes. I can’t wait to see the One BR pieces of shite melt down on October 12 when St. George passes with 70%.
I think it’s telling that in all the big neighborhoods in the area, you may only see one or two anti St. George signs. If people were truly against it you’d see way more.

Distributing the costs of government across a broader tax base helped Baton Rouge prosper
While BR is certainly not at a Jackson, MS level of dysfunction (yet), does anyone consider it to be "prospering"?

If the city parish form of government would work.
Right now you have 1 permit inspector for all the parish. Hey we do not need workers we need another overpriced CAO or government leach doing nothing.
You have a ground maintenance crew to cut grass which surprisingly handles Southdowns, Mid City, and Southdowns. If you do not live in these areas good luck.
Cleaning of ditches on roadsides and in parish servitude’s has a 6 yr backlog this is before the 2016 city parish flood. How nice we can find money for grocery stores in food deserts. Please explain this one.
Bad roads in subdivisions that have well seen better days. All of a sudden they have money to pay for a government street road diet.
Garbage service is lacking. Sad part they have a contract that spells out how to solve service issues. No one follows it which to me seems like the contract is worthless along with the garbage company and city parish govt. Hey let’s have a council meeting with no outcome to seem like we care as we are worthless as the leadership body of this parish. Seems about right.
The city parish form of government has been broken for along time.
It is time for a change and not just St George the city parish form of government needs to be disbanded. We need a City of BR govt and Parish government with separate budgets.

I wish I hadn’t canceled my subscription 15 years ago so I could do it because of this garbage.

Tell the mayor’s office to stop blowing tax money on stupid shite and giving it corrupt agencies. Stop shitting all over the police department when you have crimes that need solving. Stop blaming “whitey” because certain parts of the city are terrible. Stop pointing the finger, start pulling the thumb and maybe people will give a shite.

Don’t forget the huge one page add in the sports section questioning SG’s legitimacy.
