Left out:
When a Whopper was something that took two hands to hold
Church's chicken drum stick was as big as a turkey leg
Taco Bell enchirito was the best
Pinball machines were a great way to spend time with rock and roll from the jukebox.
Movies American Graffiti, The Paper Chase.

the ones that grew up with the freedom of the 70s became adults and when 9/11 happened decided it would be a good idea to strip all that freedom away
As I recall, the people in power at the time 9/11 happened were older Boomers, like Cheney, Rumsfeld, GWB, Clinton, et. al. They are the ones who instituted the Patriot Act.
I'm a younger Boomer (1960) and definitely oppose the Patriot Act.
Ron Paul was one of the few older guys who opposed it.
100% this. I was 30 when 9/11 happened. Like the previous poster, I'm barely a boomer, born in 1961. Definitely oppose the Patriot Act and nobody my age was in charge of anything then. My age of boomer didn't have it nearly as good as the ones 10 years older.

quote:Born in 59, so I was too big for the Big Wheel too. Had already been thru a couple of Buzz Bikes and got a Columbia Road bike around 1974. I already had my driver's license by then too, because we got them at 15 back then. Learned to drive in my mom's big 4 door 69 Buick Wildcat with it's 430 cubic inch V8.
I was too old/tall for them, with the seat set back all the way, I couldn’t pedal the first one I tried to ride.
The music was great. I still listen to a lot of 70's stuff, but the quality of the radios and 8 track players sucked. At one point in the early 70's I had a Craig 8 track/AM/FM car radio and 6X9 car speakers hooked to a battery charger in my bedroom. The charger would kick in and out. It actually made a clicking sound when it did that. I bought it from a friend who had been using it in a shed in his parents back yard.
Before we were old enough to drive, we used to camp out in the woods near our neighborhood and ride bikes all over town during the night. It was customary to ride them past the police station on the courthouse square after 2 am as a dare. I don't think they ever really saw us because they never came after us.
I intentionally used my birth year and the year of my mom's Buick the way I did because, back then, you didn't have to put 19 in front of the year. You just used 57 or 69 or 83, and everyone understood.

There's no room for the middle when one guy has Presidential Proclamation power. Obama begot Trump and Trump begot whoever was in charge when Biden was president. Then that begot Trump again.
definitely oppose the Patriot Act.

You were a little older than 30 when 9/11 happened. I was 32 and am 8 years younger than you.

I started the 70s on a bike with a banana seat,
I finished it up in 1979 with a '55 Chevy 2 door post with rolled and pleated interior and a 400 short block and the old reliableTurbo-Hydramatic 350 transmission.
It was a wonderful time to be alive.

It was definitely a great time to be a serial killer.

I drank plenty garden hose water. We’d play football until dark. I would take off my left shoe, turn it sideways and use it for a tee to kickoff

Bottle Rocket wars for the win!!!
My favorite dangerous pastime. The only safety precaution we took was long sleeve shirts and actually using bottles for liftoff so you could aim it. Girls took part as well.

I was 4 years old in 1970 and 14 in 1980. Best decade of my life! Oh the memories and how the world has changed!

Don't forget no bras! My older sister's friends were all hot and pokey.
Three pages in and I was beginning to think I was the only one to remember halter tops. Basically a bandana tied at the neck and back. So prevalent as casual wear that even the Catholic high school girls hung out in them. I knew two, three or even five sisters who were seemingly having some sort of contest. Ah, memories.

They also didn't have terrible AI slop videos like the one in the OP in the 70s.

Yes the music was great. I moved away from Baton Rouge in the early 80s, but I did have a ticket to the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in '77... that never happened. Think about that all the time.

Sorry. I can do math better than that. I was 40. But I stand by the fact that none of my age was in charge of anything.
