In the wild this is true. However, squirrels in captivity, like Peanut, can live between 15-20 years with proper care.
Squirrels don't take fall damage, so you could spend that 15-20 years tossing it out of airplanes and such and it would just keep squirreling on.
True story, though I don't condone throwing squirrels out of airplanes.

What's the highest a squirrel has ever fallen from and survived?

when we were kids in the 60's we would trap flying squirrels on a farm south of White Castle. Made great pets. about 1/2the size of red fox or grey squirrels . From a very tall pecan tree, they would launch themselves and glide to the next tree.

Why didn't they just take it miles away from the city and let it go?

I don't know, but assuming they hit nothing on the way down, and it is just a regular landing physics says there isn't a height from which they can't survive a fall. They don't weigh enough for their terminal velocity to be fatal upon impact.

This guy was a former NASA engineer, and he has a series of videos on Youtube trying to devise obstacle courses for his backyard squirrels. The squirrels always seem to find a way to get to the food.
He says they use their tails as helicopter rotors during a fall to keep them below terminal velocity. Anyway, the video series is definitely fun to watch.

Blue state. They worry more about killing pet squirrels then violent criminals….

Her name is Monica Keasler. She’s the gem that reported Peanut ??? & Fred ?? to NYS that ultimately got them killed. She has since deleted all her social media accounts. She just made herself famous in the worst way…

Fwiw, that confession came from a fake TikTok account and the squirrel guy is begging people to not harass her. It might not be her.

She isn't the one who reported the guy.

Not only a weird bot bump, but weird that my post calling it a bot bump was deleted.
