My point is this, Louisiana has about 140,000 government workers, of which the overwhelming majoring work in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas. It’s simply logic based upon population density.
It has been a well known fact since yesterday that the weather would be hitting Baton Rouge around 12 and New Orleans around 3. Wouldn’t it have been more fiscally responsible to open state offices in Baton Rouge for half a day and New Orleans offices for a 3/4 day?

I'm hunkered down. It's been raining and thundering here. Power went out for 30 minutes. I thought it was the end of all things there.

That one got us and 50,000 of our neighbors, we are in Sachse/North East DFW. I stood under the garage and watched it destroy my truck/house.
There was hail so big it went through roofs and landed in peoples living rooms. Sachse/Wylie looked like a war zone for weeks after with blue tarps on 80% of the homes.

Why are you having such a hard time with this? Working half a day and then letting 140,000 hit the roads when the weather is getting here? Avoiding traveling in bad weather is basically the reason they are off today. Being this upset about your tax dollars wasted for one day of work makes you sound crazy.

I’ve been on both sides of this coin ... put in 16 years with the State before getting fed up with the shite and joking the private sector. The call to shut down today was likely a convenience thing since it is the day before a holiday weekend.
While you may bitch about the early call on the day off, keep in mind that those same state employees are the ones that may be directed to work shelters and other emergency situations in the event that there is a bad storm that puts folks out of their homes from either tornados or flooding. So while you get to tend to your own affairs in a disaster, the state employees have to set their problems aside and help others receive needed services during a disaster.
