Don't act like he is some anomaly. The fact of the matter is it truly is an addiction. Studies are showing the phone activates addiction areas of the brain. So I would assume the answer is similar to other addictions. Don't put an alcoholic in a bar or a compulsive gambler in a casino. Therefore, put the phone somewhere that isn't accessible while driving.

Put your phone in a place where you cannot reach it. That's the only thing you can do.

It's not rocket science, just don't use the phone...

Texting and driving: how did you stop?
By having my wife drive like a real OT alpha male.
Duh.

I just stopped doing it. I don't feel the need to read/respond to every text as soon as it comes through, so I rarely had the impulse.
Now, my car has the feature where it reads my texts to me and lets me dictate a response. I just use that when driving.

Drive a stick shift in a hilly area in rush hour traffic.

If you are that serious about it and really can't stop on your own, just put the phone in the trunk every time you drive. Bluetooth should still allow you to make and take calls.

I'm notorious for messing with my phone while driving. It's stupid, dangerous, and selfish.
Yesterday, a good friend of mine's wife, son, and friend of the son were killed in a horrific car wreck.
This is why you don't text and drive. It's as bad as drinking and driving. My wife and I were almost killed by a distracted driver last year.
It's why I'm so up in arms on here about drinking and distracted driving. It's not worth it to the victim you harm by your actions.

Um... if you have self-control issues just put your phone in the backseat.

I'm going to start using Siri 100% of the time if it can't wait to send a text. Even she butchers it.
I usually just send my texts the way she butchers them bc they are usually pretty damn funny.

Was she texting and driving or not? Seems kind of shitty for the memory of them to assume she was before an investigation.

IF they are below the age of 40, there is a 90% chance they are on it.
If they are below 40 with tits, 97%.
Below 40 tits and black....100%
Above 40 but below 60....64%
Above 60...not enough data.

Sorry to hear about your friend's wife, son and son's friend. That will not be easy for your friend to deal with.
My niece has wrecked two cars because she was texting and driving. Luckily, both times she got out with a few scratches and it didn't involve another vehicle (she ran into a ditch the first time and the second time she ran off the road and hit a sign).
You are operating a vehicle with other people on the street texting and talking on their phone, so just keep in mind it is in your best interest to give the road all of your attention. Put your phone down as soon as you get into your vehicle. Is anything that important that you HAVE to text with someone while driving?
Just think about it from a priority standpoint. How would you feel if you hit and killed a parent and a few kids, by hitting them on the road, because you thought that what you were texting was more important than anything else? Think about the realities and that should be enough to help you stop.

If you have an iPhone click the “do not disturb while driving” option and when you are driving your phone won’t accept any incoming messages or calls

You can get weed for that?
More ya know.
From my Pizza delivery days using iphone GPS I have a habit of holding the phone up in front of me so I can see my phone and the road. People tend to try and hide what they're doing, making it more dangerous. I check the traffic on I-10 a few times per commute each way and I'm not going to stop doing that.
Occasionally someone will pass me and get mad or something.
One guy on I-10 east one morning a few months ago raged on me for it. Pulled around me into the right lane(i drive just under the speed limit like an old pawpaw) in front of me and stomped the gas in his diesel, blowing a big cloud of black smoke. It actually was hard to see for a few seconds.
He did this 8 times stomping the gas then slowing down. True story. Then he took off going about 90mph.
The irony of that incident was impressive.
