Or just turn your phone off for 10 minutes. You'll live, I promise.

messing with my phone other than at stoplights or in park.

Pretty much the only reasonable time to do it. Although cops will tell you its still illegal then.

It's becoming that way in some states.

I recently saw a Louisiana State Trooper lean out the window of his vehicle to accost a girl texting while at a stoplight.

I didn't read past page three so this may have been mentioned, but a company (local to Baton Rouge ) called CellControl has a great solution. One time purchase of a $140ish dollar device.

My teen driver has it in his 4Runner. Works very welll. You now get insurance discounts for having the devic

There's days where I am in the car 5-6 hours. I cover 75% of the state of Oklahoma.

It's very hard to not try to get some things done between point A and point B. Because then I get home and I have a two boys under the age of 4 ready to play.

I've done it with my kids in the car and I feel horrible having to admit that.

So stupid.

I had a jeep with a manual trans for three years up until last year so i didnt have much choice but to not mess with the phone. It also helps if your radio has voice commands to make calls, etc. There isn't an email time sensitive enough to respond to while driving and my girlfriend has gotten used to me not responding to a text until i get where i am going.

It is truly stunning just how many people are on their phones while driving. my commute was over an hour each way the past two years and i was continuously amazed at how many people are just buried in their phone while they are driving. I am never surprised when i hear about more and more wrecks caused by texting and driving.

That's one of those decisions that sounds unselfish on the surface, but in reality is incredibly risky and could actually put you in a situation to not make it home to them.

I assume most people that do this are smart enough to at least not type on or look at their phone while passing vehicles and other traffic situations. However, I just don't see the point in doing anything with your phone while driving. Studies have proven that your brain can't truly multitask, and you'll have lapses than can last 5+ seconds at a time.

Rarely do I even make phone calls while driving these days. Baton Rouge traffic is too out of control for that nonsense.

Not trying to be preachy. Just having a couple of kids over the past 3 years put certain things in perspective for me.

The unfortunate answer is yes. You deserve it. It's a phone and you're a driver. If you lack the self control necessary to operate a motor vehicle then turn in your license.

My buddy is a paramedic. The fricking horror stories from the cell phone use is unreal.

Not making excuses, but not everyone has a 20 minute commute. I drive 45-80 minutes each morning and afternoon to get in and out of my territory.
If someone can't even spend 45 to 90 minutes away from their phone, they have a problem.

I use my phone all the time too, but it's not hard to keep it in your pocket while you drive.

Sometimes I use (not necessarily text) at red lights. Sometimes I switch Pandora stations while driving.
