Some guy on talk radio devoted his whole show to covering this last night. (pretty sure the host is in Dallas/Ft Worth).
Incredible how like 2-3 hours was people calling in to SUPPORT the woman saying animals need human rights too. Of course most of those callers were absolute lunatics equating shooting the husband and leaving their 2 kids fatherless to shooting a burglar breaking into a known to be occupied home. Or some were equating it to shooting the rapist when walking in on the act of rape of a child. Absolute lunatics.

You know, if I caught someone seriously abusing my dog and I had a gun handy, I can't say I wouldn't shoot them. I mean, I wouldn't aim for the head or the heart or anything, but I'd make sure you had to stop what you were doing and run.

I want to feel unsympathetic to someone over-egregiously going hard on an animal. I mean, sometimes you have to get a little corporeal to housetrain the dog or keep your kids from growing up to be little shits. But if he was a consistent abuser of an animal, I want to chalk it up to karma--even though death is too much of a punishment over an animal.
I've got to wonder, though, if there isn't some meth or other drug involved here, judging from this woman's mugshot...

If you can beat the shite out of an 12 lb animal, you are probably an a-hole and a little off your rocker. I'd be shocked if this was the only incident in their likely drugged up family life.
