Fuel taxes are supposed to go to roads. Louisiana for some reason keeps carving out other places for that money to go even though third world countries have better infrastructure.

If so make a cogent argument regarding "why it should" without using the concept of fairness/equity.
The trouble with 'Fair' is that it is subjective.

Interesting. I just moved from Texas and every single EV owner I knew was hard core conservative.

Agreed though being a flat fee it isn't proportional like a fuel tax is.
Well a EV is about 33% heavier that a gas vehicle. That will factor into road repairs.

Not too mention the gas tax can go up before this will get adjusted

I say this as a proud owner of a gas guzzling Chevy Silverado.
your taxes pay for roads and upkeep.
ev people are using those roads and not paying their fair share.

Typical, always want someone else to foot the bill.

Owners is ICE vehicles pay gas and diesel tax.
EV owners don’t pay that. So I guess this is the alternate.

We live in a world where electricity is political.
Sane people are exhausted and have checked out, leaving the extreme retards on both sides to drive (no pun intended) the conversation.

Charge usage fees (tolls) instead of taxes

Requires more resources to maintain, flat fee is the quickest way to get it implemented. I’ve heard of some states are already planning to move to an annual mileage version.
I don’t get why anyone is surprised by this, a good chunk of fuel price is taxes for road maintenance. You shouldn’t get around that tax by not needing fuel. You still cause wear and tear/part of traffic on roads just like ICE cars. Texas isn’t the first to do a flat fee.

Because its being forced. Forced economics usually leads to shortages and high prices.
Congrats.
