In a place as remote as that? An empty wine bottle, a liter of high-test gasoline, an oily rag, and a lit match. Problem solved. And who would see? And if anyone saw, who would tell?

Not to double reply you, but I’m willing to bet that this is the first time you’ve ever heard of Loving County. And if for some reason it isn’t, I’m willing to guarantee you don’t know dick about it wrt me.

So I truly want to hear your enlightened take. Go for it. Your two choices are to not reply and look like an idiot or to reply and prove it.

I'll take a guess based on context clues that what he means has nothing to do with the specific county. If there is a congress person representing the county, and I assume there is, and I assume it's a Republican, then it wouldn't take many people to turn that into a blue district.

I'll let him correct me if I'm wrong.

Districts don’t follow county lines, so if that’s his answer then you know what you need to know about his analysis.

Fair point. Don't take my guess as his reason and slam him for it. Let him answer.

This isn’t the first time some militant/cultish group has attempted to take over a local government to establish their little fiefdom. It usually is done by violent means and their intention is to run out the local residents either by force or to make things so chaotic that they sell for pennies or abandon their property.

Eventually, the people that take over destroy themselves and the area is lost forever.

So you don't buy he was selling feral cattle and donating the money?

Are you taking about Loving County specifically or did you want to talk about your broader emotions.

You claimed a specialized insight into this situation and I’m just wondering if that’s due to your knowledge or feelings.

It’s not about a cult.

They want to take over the county government and siphon the o&g royalties.

Then let them! There’s a reason Loving County has 62 people. You ever been out there? It’s a desolate wasteland with no hope or future, much less infrastructure and water and shite.

If some group wants to give it a go and make something out of it then I support it. It’s been done before. Nobody there is doing it now.

People that want to move across the country to a desolate wasteland to take over a county government so they can exploit the royalties probably aren’t the types to “make something out of it”.

I would also guess they would only be doing enough to meet the bare legal minimum standard of “resident” and have no plans to actually improve the area.

I don’t think it will work either, but if they succeed then great. That’s what it’s all about. Go build Wakanda or whatever. The Mormons did it.

Years ago I read how this was actually done in Texas. There are a couple of counies ran by one large Ranch. I think the Wagoneer and the King ranchs are entire counties as well.

King Ranch is 90% of Kleberg county and Kenedy ranch, just south, is 95+% of Kenedy County

I do buy some of the cattle were “feral”. There’s unbranded cattle in those parts. However, the full true story…I’ve got no freaking idea where to start.
