Texas was a country before it was a state. That's some of the attitude. With as many people as are moving to Texas, it will Californicate at some point.
I can understand why people are proud of their history, but come on that was almost 200 years ago lol

There are pros and cons to everywhere I’ve been in America. Many places I’ve visited I love to visit but couldn’t see myself living there. I don’t like blanket statements like the one from the OP.
I have a general theory that any city/town where over, say 100k-250k people, have chosen to live is a good overall place where a good life could be made and has things to offer people. My experience shows that people’s perceptions of a place very often track how they feel about their own situation, personally or professionally.

Illegal immigration is going to wreck Texas. That tex-mex though...
Property taxes are also really high and the cities don't have any character. Suburban schools are good, but TX suburbs are about as bland as it gets

My property tax is under 10k. Per year.
I pay no income state tax. I would pay 25k+ in state income tax if I lived in Louisiana (plus property taxes, albeit those would be less).

A few random thoughts.
1. Texas has a lot of good road stops on I20 between Dallas and Shreveport compared to less frequent decent stops and relatively more shitty stops all along I10 as a whole.
2. I35 traffic and drivers between Dallas, Austin and San Antonio and also through Houston on I10 are about as bad as I have ever seen. Rude and dangerous drivers are worse and more prevalent on those stretches of interstate than driving on the interstates in Metro Atlanta which is terrible in its own right.
3. Boerne is a pretty nice town in Texas.

Lived in Houston for seven years. And came to realize there were always going to be aggressive, tail-gating, rapid lane changing, speeding drivers buzzing about the freeways. It's a hallmark of urban centers. So in my most recent drive between Austin and Waco on I35 I realized these people just drive that way all the way up I35 between Austin and Dallas as though there was no relaxing rural area in between. The traffic never settled down and I was glad to depart I 35 at Waco.

In Texas every 7th grader in public school takes Texas History for an entire year. This ingrains a deep sense of pride in our history.
There’s not another unified state in the country that has the pride like Texans do.
New Yorkers are a close second. Every New Yorker I’ve met is very proud of their city. But still think there’s many of these people who hate NYC and never want to return.

I always found it interesting how rural it gets between Houston and Dallas on 45. Once you pass Huntsville it’s very quiet for a long time until you get close to Dallas. It’s really weird for being two of the largest metros in the country.

Probably because Texas is a big arse state that used to be almost entirely farmland. All of the three cities are relatively new and only became developed recently.

Even if this were true, who gives a shite? Why do you care why a place has good food - as long as they have good food.

Disagree. Uptown, Greenville, Deep Ellum...even the Villages has a strong young people presence.

The property taxes are insane yet the infrastructure and roads are garbage
This is ridiculous. There is no state income tax, yet the suburban schools are top notch in the large cities and Houston and Dallas have hundreds of miles of newish freeway. Yeah, both are very homogenous and very spread out, but those suburbs also very safe and clean.

The food scene in those cities are also infinitely better than anything Dallas, Houston and Austin have to offer.
You have lost your ever loving mind. Houston has one of the best restaurant scenes in the country. Same for Dallas, and Austin is fantastic. Im going to guess you think everything south of Kansas City is "too spicy".

Pretty sure that would mean you make over 900k a year and live in a 400k house (assuming a Houston/Dallas area). I mean kudos to you for being a financially responsible baller if true. But......I'm never going to believe you.

I just looked it up and my property tax will be slightly more than 10k this year in Texas and I would pay about 19k in income tax in Louisiana (plus their property tax). So I was slightly off but I will still take it.

my personal opinion texas and florida are both great places to live to raise a family. I personally like all 3 major cities in texas, especially the suburbs more than i do orlando. I prefer the panhandle and being close to the beaches more than either.
but im the weird one, i like the atlanta suburbs and a lot of georgia....i think a lot of alabama is nice AF and i think lafayette is a great place to live and raise a family.
but i look at where is great place to raise a family...not is the city walkable etc. its more along the lines, is the city safe, can i live in the burbs and get to plenty of things with ease, are the schools good etc etc
i will say though....you are full of shite on the food scene and have zero clue wtf you are talking about. I have been all over the US and Houston and Dallas both have tons and tons of great places to eat
in the end, if you are on the wealthy end of the scale....any place can be a great place to live.
I like where i live in LC, although I think Lafayette is better...I also like NOLA, the northshore and BR are great if you live in certain areas. hell even up where mingo likes up in Ruston is great if you have the money.
moral of the story OP....try not being Poor and most places are great places to live.

Combination of observations and being a history buff. One of the things I do is learn about the history of places I visit or live. Guess I am crazy like that.
I don't live in Texas anymore but have to travel there often. These are the places I prefer to eat at and usually the ones recommended by locals who aren't fast food addicts.
As mentioned by someone earlier, not just a Texas thing.
