That doesn't help with demand. Demand is surpassing supply, thus the problem.

You don’t think Joe Anybody would think twice about setting his AC at 68 if it meant he would charged out the arse to do it? If you want people to conservative energy then reward those who do and penalize those who don’t. People have the mentality that they aren’t do it Bc so and so isn’t doing it. Well incentivize/penalize people to conserve energy.

Why is the answer to penalize people who use energy?

It is NOT. The answer is to REWARD those who conserve energy and PENALIZE those who waste energy.

Who defines “waste”? My arse sleeps with the house at 68 degrees. That’s not waste to me

Because anyone who doesn't believe in my ideology is my enemy, and must be crushed and ruined until they conform to what I want them to do.

I am pro electric vehicles but I agree with your comment .maybe a yearly ev registration fee or something … I believe this is an issue many politicians are aware of and suspect it will happen eventually.

Joe anybody already doesn't set it at 68 because it's too damn expensive. That's running your ac 24/7. Your proposal will be nothing more than charging people extra for setting it on 75, not 79.

I'm proposing supplying more power so conservation isn't needed.

This is a stick, not a carrot. And it's the government's go-to method for everything, especially over the last 2-3 years. frick that bullshite. We constantly get fricked over because government fails over and over again and the average citizen has to pay for it with more government-corporation iron fists. It blows me away how people love to endorse this horseshite time and time and time again.

So am I but to think conservation is NOT also a good thing is just plain dumb. This is my biggest complaint about the whole Global warming/Climate Change stuff. If the narrative would be “we only have so much of these fuel sources so it would be a good idea to use in a less wasteful manner.”

Instead we got the opposite.

One Side - OIL BAD BC YOU WILL KILL US ALL BC EARTH WILL DO SOMETHING REALLY BAD AS A RESULT RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE .

Other Side - SCREW YOU BUDDY. THE EARTH WILL DO EARTH STUFF WHETHER WE ARE HERE OR NOT SO I AM GOING TO USE AS MUCH OIL AS I WANT.

Not specifically to OP but anyone lamenting on Texas Grid issues.

Wasn’t this last weekend?

Did anything actually happen? I am not aware of any outages, and life went on as normal. Some may have limited electricity use and likely some did not. Also likely some increased usage as it was hot. Seems like some beta Beto people wanted it to fail.

I just haven’t heard any issues besides these warnings which makes it seem like grid handled these 6 facilities going down the day before they sent out these requests for last Saturday and Sunday

The question I have is what happen with these facilities as this would have been more of an issue in July and August.

Not that I have an EV, but I believe my response could be summed up in three letters: GFY.

You pay more for using electricity during peak hours?

Maybe that's normal, it's a foreign concept to me, but I live in a very stable power grid.

Nah. Texas asks, California demands and arrests if you don’t comply.

Texas’ issue is to damn many people coming here.

If Texas can figure out how to generate electricity from a wildfire this problem goes away.

Because those people require additional capacity, as well as the fuel costs. Demand pricing is the truly fair and equitable way to price energy. I shouldn't have to subsidize additional capacity because some fatty gets the night sweats.

We need more supply, not just conservation. The populations aren't shrinking. We should have built nuclear plants across the country years ago.

We really really need to expand nuclear. The changes in the technology are amazing. Yet the US doesn't build new plants anymore.

Nuclear waste is such a buzzword but not much waste is generated. It was incredibly shitty that Nevada blocked that repository. When they have much much worse that was dumped on the tray ranges.

Policies like this are going to do what they always do.

Rich people will gladly pay because they can afford it and don't care, the average person will bear the brunt of burden even though they aren't the main culprit, and the corporations/governments will bring in record numbers of income. These policies are almost always a complete boondoggle but we keep thinking they work.
