Tennessee's slated reopening doesn't include Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Memphis, Jackson, or Kingsport.

Seems to me this relies on a lot of people voluntarily opting to continue living life for the next month or more the same way they have been for the last 5 weeks.
Which I'm in favor of, but I'm not sure it'll actually happen.
I'm not for indefinite closure, but I do question the wisdom of reopening as soon as signs point to leveling, as opposed to 10-14 days into that.

The guidelines Trump rolled out were actually pretty solid. This just seems like jumping the gun.

I’m not against starting to open *some* things up, but this isn’t a great argument for it IMO.
Opening back up too early and starting a 2nd wave that kills more people and puts us back into a longer quarantine will be a lot more depressing for most than waiting a few more weeks to be sure.

We're losing 5M+ jobs per week. Every week, the scale of economic disaster we have to deal with intensifies.

The virus will be no more or less of a threat in a few more weeks.
Flattening the curve was the plan. This plan does not lead to eradicating the curve anytime in the near future.

it's pretty much just this simple
it's a cost/benefit analysis. People are going to get sick and die and that's unfortunate. There is going to be a second spike. If we have done a good job reinforcing our hospital infrastructure this last month and a half, we should be able to withstand the second spike. Either way, building up herd immunity is going to be the optimal path forward.
We've got a long and painful road ahead of us, and every week we wait, it just gets longer and more painful

I think people who dig into what Kemp is saying will come away feeling better, the precautions taken in reopening are significant and it's not just a free for all.
Of course, the question is whether those restrictions will be followed and citizens will respond as they should, and that's where the potential for this to break down starts.
Moreover, it's questionable whether there is going to be a meaningful economic gain by very structured reopening now vs. another couple weeks of closure. I think this type of very gradual reopening is the way to go (I don't expect to hear about a bunch of people flocking to the movies next week), but again, I question whether there is anything really gained by this.
I think GA is ok, not great not terrible (outside of Albany), but that begs the question of whether we should be at the front of the line for these moves.

Good post. There is no point to further kicking the can on this issue. We can't kick it far enough to not have the eventual issue of needing to face the danger and pain that's inevitable until there is a vaccine.
