The metric system is measurement for dummies. Not everything has to be base 10. Imperial is more accurate in a lot of ways. For example: 72.1 degrees Fahrenheit is far more precise than 22.2 degrees Celsius. For Celsius to be as precise as Farenheit, you have to stretch it out to 5 decimal places.
72.1 degrees Farenheit is 22.27778 degrees Celsius.
I'll add that Fahrenheit is much easier for humans to relate to since our bodies are around 98deg F. We understand 100deg F better than whatever the Celsius math works out to.

I vaguely remember being taught the metric system in elementary school (late 70’s), with the intention that the US was going to eventually convert to metric. Obviously never happened

There are more ways to break down 12 inches rather than 10.
Pretty useful.

Celsius is an inferior method of determining temperature.

Might be the only positive, but Imperial is superior for recipes.
Converting imperial ingredient amounts to metric amounts is an impossible task. It might also explain why British food sucks.

If God wanted us to use the metric system there would have only been 10 disciples.

Its gradients suck, plus at the end of the day, there’s something rather wonderfully intuitive in tying what’s deemed a really hot ambient temperature to human body temperature.

mathematically, you can break imperial down into more factors
4ths, 8ths, 16ths, 32nds, 64ths, etc.
makes it more versatile when building things.

If God intended man to use the metric system then Jesus would have had only 10 apostles

My guess is that since US industrial development occurred under the imperial system - particularly with the firearms industry at the Springfield & Harper's Ferry - leading to the American system of manufacturing that was adopted by manufacturing concerns throughout the nation, it became too big to change because once established, changing was like retooling an entire factory and I reckon they figured if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
There's also the historical concept of American exceptionalism at play - we often do things differently just to make a point that we're different and that's ingrained in our national psyche. For example, no matter how much they've tried, Americans simply aren't that interested in soccer (f communism).
Not for nothing, but there's something to be said for the mental acuity needed for/developed by understanding ratios (fractions).
Metric is so damn much easier, though.

This guy gets it on temperature. It’s a lot easier to rationalize temp out of 100, similar to a test score.

It is not.

Jimmy Carter tried to switch us over to the metric system
And look what happened. Our economy went to crap, we had record interest rates, Russia invaded Afghanistan and Iran took our embassy. We had to skip the Olympics, wear sweaters inside and drive 55.
You young people need to learn history.
