Makes me sad to read all this. Was a great time, and I was one who made the most of it. Murphy's I think was nickel beer (someone said 25 cents), three for one at Kilpatricks on Wed., $1 screwdrivers 4-9 at Fred's on Thursday, then on to the weekly exchange, TGIFs everywhere on Friday, including at the law school.
Not sure if you're talking about Jimmy Danos. He was a contemporary of mine who sadly died a few years back. I did not witness any banning for life from Murphy's, but I wouldn't doubt it.
Lastly, let me just say what I have said many times, thank goodness there were no cell phone cameras when I was in school.

Danos got banned for life from there for diving off the balcony into the crowd. Would have loved to have seen that in person.
RIP.

He belonged to the Epsilon Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at LSU.
Following graduation from college he worked in Washington for the Bicentennial Commission on the U.S. Constitution under President Ronald Reagan and past Chief Justice Warren Burger. He was then drawn into the world of food and entered the Culinary Institute. Following his graduation, he went to New York where he was employed by many well-known restaurants. It was James’ goal to always create the ultimate dining experience, making him well respected in the restaurant industry. He was loved by many and will be truly missed by family, friends and all who shared a part of his life.

WOW, I did not know he died! He helped get me a waiter job at a nice restaurant back in the day, and I remember him wanting to make a career in the culinary arts. So sad.
I recently learned that P Doucet died of a heart attack a few years ago.

There were attempts to re-enter Murphys after that incident, but he was always recognized and either escorted out or flat out banned at the door. He quit trying to get in after one or two attempts, and just accepted it.

LSU '92 - '97 Tiger Bar was a usual. Zeus the bouncer. Usually hit Snorkels first for a flaming Dr. Pepper. Sometimes would hop over to sports. Usually head over to Caterie once I ran out of money to listen to Allison Collins before she became a Who Dat.
I'm sure our paths crossed a few times
Also used to frequent Earline's Alligator Hilton on Sunday nights

Texas Club used to have "Any Drink, Any Coin" nights. Those were great.
Pay $6 to get in, every drink you get is a Penny. After 10-15 penny cocktails or beers go home wasted. The only downside was well it was the Texas Club and it was in Mall City.
Binge drinking was huge then. People drank until they got sick weekly.

The fraternities are very lame compared to what they used to be. I don't know why anybody would want to join one now. I couldn't say the same thing back then. Those dudes knew how to have a good time back in the day.
I agree 100%. These fears nowadays are nothing but a bunch of cookie-cutter guys who look like they just came off an assembly line. They all look the same; they all dress the same. No originality or diversity at all. Buncha little primadonna bitches.

I hear stories from my dad (late 70's about how the Chemistry department would make jungle juice with pure ethanol for pool parties at the Huey Long Fieldhouse.
I'd kill these days for beer to be served at the Union where there was a pool hall and bowling alley.

yeah, but it sorta sucked to drink there, especially as you could drink at local bars much cheaper.
bayou free pool and $3 pitchers was awesome.

I really remember Murphy's the most. It was the bar we frequented the most often and it was just a damn good time.
Of course I was in a fraternity (Lambda Chi). We would walk from the house to Murphy's. Dollar calls, nickel night, classic rock Wednesdays were all my favorite. Smoking hot and drunk sorority girls always willing to dance with me. This was back in the early to mid 90's. Those were definitely the glory days of partying at LSU.
Damn, really brings back memories...

Ben Wynn was fall of 97. Murphy's closed not long after. Drinking age changed fall of 95. I had been legal for 2 years and they yanked the rug out.

You can put him six foot under me, but he will never sign with me, there will never be a lightweight in SAE!!!
I remember going to Tiger Stadium to save seats for the actives, as a Sigma Nu pledge in 1977. We stood next to the SAE pledges and sang silly songs back-ans-forth during the weight for the gates to open. One of the songs was a tale that ended with. "The mother of an SAE." That was all in fun and it went both ways.
Pretty sure us chanting, "If you can't go Greek go TKE" to the guys in the house next door to us would be bullying.

The music kicked arse at Murphy's and Tuesday night was quarter beer.. I've never been to any other bar and heard the theme song from Batman played.. and work like it did at Murph's. It was a great bar.

That was the beginning of the end of Murph's. F-cking GHB.

It's interesting reading these threads because I start to realize I have definitely crossed paths with a few of you all while at LSU.

Sometimes I truly don't know how I graduated from LSU.
Some of us didn't. I took the advise of my brothers friends who told me all I had to do was go to class. I went to class, but didn't do much studying. Had a .6 at mid-term my first semester. Brought it up to a 1.2 by the end of the semester.
Was OK at the beginning of the Spring, but starting going over to the house playing spades and hearts after class. That evolved into playing bourre at the house of an alumnus instead of going to class. I did win that day they taught me to play.
When the grades dropped again, I was a gone pecan, but I had gotten a different kind of education.
