I've been offered a position on a 2 year project in Skowhegan, Maine. I've never been to that part of the country and am excited about the prospect.

Yes, this is literally in the middle of nowhere. Something about that seems really appealing right now though.

Anyone been there; have any insight into the area?

Every August, Skowhegan hosts the annual Skowhegan State Fair, the oldest continuously-held state fair in the United States. Skowhegan was originally inhabited by the indigenous Abenaki people who named the area Skowhegan, meaning "watching place," and were mostly dispersed by the end of the 4th Anglo-Abenaki War.

So, these Abenaki were voyeuristic people? Kinky bastards.

Going to Montreal would be like driving from Nashville to Atlanta except there is a border and little chance of getting carjacked.

But the lack of diversity is most certainly its strength.

Close enough to hit up Bar Harbor a couple times. Beautiful place. I'm sure the rest of Maine is pretty nice too if your the outdoorsy type. Just buy solid winter coat.

Not arguing, but you are up shite creek if you get a craving for collards and cornbread
