Don't know about cost of living.. my brother, who has worked up there before, says there's tons of things to do.
Also, says Yankees call NC"Midway" because it's halfway between NY and Florida.

Left LA about 6 years ago. We’re in Apex. Lots to do. COL has gone up and lots of growth. 1000% better than baton rouge. There was a big thread on this same topic a month or so ago.

Beautiful city in a beautiful state.

I lived around 4 years in this area. Good weather, relaxed area, things to do and a great place for a family imo.

Im considering moving back to NC or SC when I retire. Loved the Carolinas.

I've spent a fair amount of time in Carey for work. At the time it was voted the safest city in America multiple years in a row. Its absolutely beautiful up there. Its a suburb of Raleigh, about a 20 min drive

Cary is hands down the best town I’ve ever lived in.

Is expensive there days but well worth it.

I enjoy Duke sports so for that reason alone I would like it.
No MLB sadly but the Durham bulls are a pretty historic AAA team.
Not too far from the mountains and the beach as said before.
I like where I’m at in Texas but if I was from somewhere I hated it would definitely be on my list

Sister and fam has lived there for the past 25 years. The schools are good. Both boys became engineers through NC State. Both were able to get good paying jobs in the Raleigh area right out of school.

- There are a couple of lakes close by (Lake Jordan) where you can enjoy watersports, fishing. Better opps a little further north at Lake Gaston / Kerr Lake on the Virginia border.
- NC has great state parks for camping, etc.
- College sport are big there (like BTR).
- GREAT music scene. I get pinged on bands coming near me (in Virginia) and they all stop in Raleigh.
- Tons of breweries.
- Even the little towns on the outskirts are exploding and becoming upscale. Sister lives in Clayton and it's packed on the weekends.
- Takes 3 hours to get to Outer Banks or 2 hours to Wilmington (so beaches aren't exactly close).
- Gets pretty hot in the summer and cool/cold in the winter but fairly mild. They will see a little snow occasionally but not much lately.
- On the edge of the Piedmont so flat to low meandering geography, at 400 ft elevation.
- Just a good place to live, have a good job, raise a family.

It’s a great city. I can’t really think of anything negative about it. Everytime I go there I’m always amazed at how clean the city is. I spend most of my time there in the wake forest area and it’s a really pretty area. There’s no mountains or big hills or anything but the terrain is gentle rolling hills which I like. It’s a couple hours away from Uwarrie National Forest if I remember correctly which you can do some actual hiking. Also only a couple hours from the beaches. It’s not a big metropolitan city but it seems like a great place for family’s.

Some 70% of residents of Wake county (not including students) were born outside of NC. That’s a fairly staggering percentage.

Why

Relative to south louisiana, the culture is bland. Its basically every other mid major city on the i-85 corridor, like greenville, sc.

Basically a corporate city designed for yuppy basic white women surrounded by never ending rows of overpriced town homes.

Come here to hustle and live in a safe place for kids with great schools. Dont come here to be entertained or for a laissez fare lifestyle.

So you're a "parades and food" guy, huh?

I haven't checked out Greenville yet, but heard it's an awesome town, also exploding.

Lived in Charlotte since 2001, but moving the family to Wilmington (much smaller, but easy access to Raleigh/Durham) after the school year. Very bullish on North Carolina. Raleigh/Durham is a great place for medical care too if it is ever needed.

i would not be surprised if it was not higher than that. No one is from the area....including myself. Alot of Northeast transplants, which is good and bad.

Make the move, quality of life is much better overall.
