Separating from the Navy and picked up a gig with Boeing. Will be working in Belle Chasse for 2 years. What should I expect?

Edit: Where would the best place for my pasty arse to live without being a crime stat?

Just across the river is a great place called St Bernard Parish. You should check it out.

They have LA23 BBQ and a Dairy Dip. Enjoy.

ETA: Oh and all the local baws hang at The Clubhouse on Saturday night.

Salvo’s is great, and I’ve gotten pretty good lunch at Lil Lee’s attached to the gas station.

There might not be much to do, but Belle Chasse has a low crime rate. And it's also just a 25-30 minute drive to New Orleans if you're looking for fun or great places to eat. There are also lots of places to eat just a few miles away, so the location is pretty good (safe, but close enough to more interesting areas).

It's not that bad depending on what you like. Close to Nola, a few ok restaurants, decent schools, fairly low crime and an hour from some of the best fishing in the country. 25 yr old fallguy probably wouldn't have cared for it. 40 yr old fallguy would be fine with it.

I was down there last week for the first time since pre-Katrina.

I had forgotten that there are some nice houses down there.

last week i rode my motorcycle down to venice passing all through bell chase, after the harvey tunnel, as soon as you go about a mile there wasnt a damn thing out there. every 50 or so miles you see a few gas stations, one little supermarket around port sulfer, and after that the only retail stores were either a family dollar or dollar general store every few miles, "not even a frickin walmart for christ sake"

so i guess if you move there you have to drive to new orleans if you need anything at a store

Crime rate below the tunnel is very low...but using back gate is a pain in the arse these days....would you be eligible to live in contract housing on post?
