Too old for me, but family friends with the Udstads. Ruth's Chris probably wouldn't exist without Sig's.

Betsy was in 2001? If you mean 40, ok. But while Betsy may have wiped out a lot, wat more of a comeback was made compared to post-Katrina.

Freeport Sulphur shutting down killed Port Sulphur..

It definitely put a hurt on the town. My uncle, and a few guys I work with worked there until the end.

my bad....should have said Camille

my dad worked on the boats for Freeport, he spent Betsy tied up in the river at Port Sulphur...

they named the last supply boat that came out of Harvey after him back in the mid 1980's...

I'd personally live in Old Gretna (somewhere around St. Josephs) before Belle Chasse...

but I'm at a different point in my life...

Did you know Sigs was basically the first Ruth Chris Steakhouse. My Great grandmother helped him decorate the restaurant.

Love this bit of history.

The oven in Sig's was the original / precursor used by Ruth's.

The Chris started DTR, not in Nola.

Also, what we know as pepper sauce was originated in Plaquemines. I will try to get the name.

It is also said that battle ship gray was first put into use by colonial ships using river mud to cover their masts and bows as an element of camouflage to surprise the British.

So who here knows of the the orgasmic taste of the Lebeouf Red Velvet Cake?

I have an old recipe she put in one of the Parish recipe books for the Orange Velvet.

OMG I used to get these for my birthday every year even well into adulthood. My mother-in-law would swear that it wasn't a real red velvet cake because she couldn't get one to taste near like it LOL

My Grandma still gets me petit fours of them when I go down. So amazing. Her rum cake is out of this world too.
