It was a 3-4 hour commute from Los Colinas to Uptown if that gives you an idea

I was working in Las Colinas at the time. I remember my team decided to head home early that afternoon due to the storm. Some of my team members lived in Uptown and it took them 3 hours to get home. I was living a mile down the road and got home in 5 minutes. Took a nice long nap and when I woke up freaked out for a minute because I was just planning to rest for a few minutes. Turns out my team members living in Uptown had only made it about halfway home. Chilled the rest of the afternoon while waiting for them to get home.

Duke - hope you feel better. I too am battling Omni at the moment but symptoms are pretty manageable at the moment.

As long as this doesn't turn into last year - which it doesn't sound like will be the case. I was one of the unfortunate ones without power for nearly 4 days. Pretty miserable time with two toddlers.

I was held up in our office until 4:30 and we were “released early” while we were watching snow come down for several hours and traffic building up. We all had the ability to log on at home too. The section they just completed off of Regal Row had a temporary bridge that Semis couldn’t get over. It was a disaster.

I’m very experienced driving in heavy snow storms. The DFW area is more terrifying than Snowqualmie Pass or any backroads mountain road in Idaho when it’s snowing. People really have no clue what they’re doing.

This is my second winter living in Dallas. What happened in 2013?

2013 is another one hard to forget I had moved to las colinas the October prior. I remember being at the grocery store that friday night and kept asking myself "why the frick are there so many people here". Needless to say I didn't have enough groceries. Ended up going out one day to freebirds since they were the only place i could find open.

Got that steroid second wind and got a half a blog post written about it.

I might just share it with the class tomorrow (never trust my promises on time).

I expect Longview to be very borderline on significant icing. I am leaning towards only light icing there Thursday starting around 6am Thursday. Light icing still means travel is to be avoided but power concerns are not likely. Further west towards Tyler icing will be much worse. This could all change if the freeze line progress faster.

Looks like I'm about to be double boned. Sleet/Ice in DAL and thunderstorms in MSY on Thursday night. With no Cat III approach they may have cancellations/delays.

If you're in the Memphis area, or really anywhere on the Eastern edges of this storm, you really can't be loving the outlook right now.

12z HRRR didn't quite make it out to see the Eastern reaches, but you can see what is coming. Soundings show warm air aloft with lots of moisture.

God help that one area if they get 2 inches of freeing rain accumulated. Power lines will be down everywhere.

i'm going to "fact check: false" that you walked a mile in 5 minutes.

Yeah, when you see sub-freezing surface temps, 2-3" of rain to the Southeast where temps are warmer, and no snow accumulations near the freezing line, you may have a problem.

Gonna be a bunch of cold rain for me, and I don't particularly care for it. Not that I'd rather have the frozen stuff, though. I'd rather none of it or at least not as much of it.

This thing looks like more of a shitshow every time it gets updated. Little Rock and Memphis are going to get wrecked by this. I-40 will be a 120 mile traffic jam between them.

Posts like this are why I do this.

If I can save just one tee time

Been on the horn with my Memphis friends this morning, suggesting they get some extra supplies because there are catastrophic numbers on a lot of the models for that LR to Memphis/west tenn region

Well, I’m in Louisville and with the overnight shift I just emailed all of my Thursday clients to either move to Telehealth or reschedule. Just hoping we can keep power.
