It's all the helicopter parenting and parents forcing society to give their kids undeserved positive outcomes, from trophies to grades to more time taking tests, etc. It's like when wild animals are raised in captivity and don't know how to survive in the wild, the only difference is captivity and the wild are the same environment in this case. Many kids never develop the tools they need to deal with tough situations.

Her classmates know who the bullies were.

Those bullies will have a very hard time when someone decides to take matters into their own hands.

Gotta teach kids how to hit back. Pop a bully in the teeth with a pair of well-hidden brass knucks and I guarantee the problem is solved

im 33. I can think back and remember when i was 14 or 15 and a girl break up with me. Would seem like my life was over. Like nothing mattered... That was my life then. I couldnt see 15 yrs down the road. Now i lololol thinking how dumb i was. But i knew no better, that was all that was important then. Now if that happens, you may get somone in facebook talking about how this chick dumped you, tag 50
kids at school, they make post saying how much of loser you are, all kinds of shite. Its that bad times 100000x

Yeah tell a teenager to get off of social media and change their number and stay inside like a hermit.

So close to being out of high school and likely putting all the bullying behind her. So very sad.

Apparently she did.

And I don't think a reasonable solution, in a world that is become increasingly based in cyberspace, is to withdraw from it altogether. People shouldn't have to hide to avoid relentless bullying.

Did the parents or school get counseling for her to try and counter the crap she was getting from those frickers??

As the mother of teenagers, I pray that I am raising my kids well enough to keep them from bullying someone like that; and if they ever were targeted themselves they could shake it off and move forward.

ETA when my girls were in middle school (and in case you don't know, middle school girls can be viscious) a parent of a girl who who was struggling socially came up to me to tell me how thankful she was that one of my daughters is always so kind to hers and goes out of her way to make her girl feel included. I was so proud I had to leave the gym because I teared up a little - single most proud moment as a mother. Then I got pissed bc I w thought what kind of world do we live in in that I got that damned worked up bc my kid was nice to another kid??????

with a girl? You want your daughter "popping a bully with brass knuckles"? How will she do with a criminal charge for using brass knuckles. Might work for a boy, doubt it will help a girl.

Seems more emphasis ought to be placed on making sure kids understand that other's opinions dont really matter.
I learned it thanks to good parenting.

So easy for an adult to say.

Imagine being a teenage girl and having to ask your parents to get your number changed because you're being bullied- could be an extremely uncomfortable conversation.

And deleting social media accounts? That probably isn't an option to most high-schoolers, that is a huge part of their life and how they express themselves.

Obviously those things would help with the problem, but to a HS girl they probably don't seem like rational options. Not to mention- kids would find other ways to bully her and probably even make fun of her more for deleting her accounts or changing her number.
