Generally if a "weaker" child is victimized over their appearance or something that is just really cruel, the cool kids will rally around them. That's been my experience anyhow.

I have 4 daughters. Aged 17,15,15, and 6.
I can't even tell you how bad girls that age are in piling on each other in social media. The worst are the ones whose stay at home soccer moms get embroiled in the feuds.
My daughter (15) and her boyfriend broke up and it was a shitstorm. My wife read and monitored her text every night. It was getting very ugly as his friends were bullying the hell out of her for several days in a row. She would ask them to please stop and show some maturity but they didn't . I knew most of these boys because I coached them in 8th grade football so I texted as myself and told them I was about ready to whip their arse and their dads arse if need be. The texts stopped after I got a few calls from some parents and read them some of the cruel garbage their kids had been saying.

I'd go to jail cause I'd bring some serious pain to the families of those who bullied my daughter.

fricking terrible. Depending on age of bullies, we need to start prosecuting and punishing these kids.
If we can somehow find out who was behind it, and be sure we have the right people, their names, addresses, and phone numbers should be published. Their worthless parents too (and their parents' employers).

An app can try to mask it, but that time stamp and the carrier are an easy trace.
How would the girl get that kind of information? The police, sure, but what could she have done to address it?

Everyone gets bullied. Raise your kid to shake that shite off
It is almost comical how people think the shite they went through is anywhere near the stuff you see in some of these suicide cases. The idea that "everyone gets bullied" and should just shake it off is asinine when you've got a girl who had fake social media pages made with her image promoting her as a hooker and had to change her fricking phone number to avoid anonymous messages she was receiving.
If you think that is normal, everyday kind of stuff you're crazy.

I believe a lot of fathers feel the same way, but what if your daughter was one of the bullies?

quote:Yeah. I see a lot of parallels with physical punishment as well.
The idea that "everyone gets bullied" and should just shake it off is asinine
For example, despite numerous studies that show that because of the nature of punishment (learn better through reinforcement), and more importantly, the poor application of it (delayed, used too frequently, doesn't match severity of behaviors, based on anger rather than correcting behavior, not providing corrective feedback, etc.), people still say: "well I was whipped and turned out OK."
It's as if "turning put OK, or surviving the bullying" is some standard that makes it acceptable, despite a great deal of evidence that it's often harmful.
With a focus on "Making America Great," one would think that "sometimes turning out OK" is a bit of a low standard.

Jesus. How awful.
I have an 18 yea old son and a 14 year old daughter.
Girls are a thousand times crueler than boys. I'm sure some of the insecurities I have today stem back from some mean comment another girl made about me in the 9th grade.
And to people saying "Just delete their SM accounts"? SM is not only a large part of teenagers social lives it's also a large part of everything they do. Teachers use Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat to communicate with students and even use them for assignments. All the teams and clubs use social media. My kids' principal uses Twitter to update students and parents on things happening at the school.
SM has it's faults but if you monitor what your kids are up to, it has lots of benefits too. I remember my parents dropping me off to meet up with friends and having to wander around a ball game or the mall looking for them. My kids and their friends just Snapchat or whatever and they are good.
I love that I can GPS my kids' phones and know where they are at all times.
I let my kids have SM but the rules are -
1 - I know their usernames and passwords. If I want to log in their accounts and read whatever I want, I do. If they change the password or get a secret account, they lose their accounts.
2 - I am one of their friends/followers/whatever and can see what they post. If they post something out of line, they lose their accounts.
3 - Don't post anything you wouldn't want your grandparents to read.
4 - Don't ever, ever, ever post our address or phone numbers online and don't give personal info to a stranger.
Being a teenager is dangerous. You don't take away the keys from your teenager because they might get in a wreck. You teach them how to be a safe driver and say a little prayer every time they pull away.
Being a teenager today is hard. I'm glad we didn't have all this shite when I was growing up.

It is more of a pack mentality where teens join the fray so as to remain accepted within the clique that is on the attack. You typically see one ringleader and the rest just follow along. It can and sometimes does involve all that you said but most of the time it is extreme immaturity which is one of the factors you mentioned. It often times boils down to cheap laughs at the victims expense made by kids who otherwise have no real beef with the victim. It has always been that way but social media has made it much worse than when I was growing up.

I have daughters, I'd have addressed directly with the parents also. If that didn't produce results I'd see if they could text with shattered hands. I figure I'd be out of jail by the time they were able to hold a cup unaided.

My 15 year-old daughter is very quick to cut other kids out of her life who are into trouble, cliquish, having sex or already into drugs. I wish you the best, as it sounds like your girls are hanging with kids that aren't the kind you'd want them to be with.

We seemed to manage just fine without that shite as kids.
Kids still committed suicide before Facebook though.

Reading this story, it would be hard for me to not go find the bullies and beat them to death, if this was my daughter or sister. Truly awful.

Eh, kids are kids. They probably had no idea the impact their actions were having because, just like the girl who killed herself over some teasing, they ALSO lack perspective by virtue of being kids. They'll probably grow out of it and look back with regret at how far they took it.
