So I rewatched this and you can see the guy before it takes off on the far left, his overhead harness is CLEARLY not down (observe the angle of the hand holds). Whether by his size or not is not obvious. but he should have never gone up with the harness in that position.
shite.
shite.

Edit: He's the guy all the way to the left for those who haven't seen the video

I don't ride these.
Ever since I rode tower of terror as a kid I've hated these types of rides. It felt like I was going to fly out the entire time.
It looks to me like his harness wasn't down too. Sad.

I wish I hadn't watched that, but damn that harness looks like it was barely lowered. There's no way that thing was good to go.

I went to a fair in South Georgia with a ride like this last fall and I remember there was this total fricking failure of a father that was arguing with the ride operator to let his clearly under height son on the ride. They argued for like 5 minutes and all I could think about was how fricking stupid the dad was. I mean his son was probably a good 6-8 inches underneath the height requirement. And he ended up running past the guy with his son anyways.

Damn. The operators were taking their merry time like they didn’t seem to give a frick but I’m assuming they just didn’t know what happened right away I guess.

frick yo. I think this is enough Tigerdroppings for me today.

You’re talking about Carnies here man.

The article says they thought it was a piece of the ride at first.

I mean that’s probably what they said to reporters/police but they clearly knew it was a kid basically immediately judging by the video.

Wow.
This place might not be Disney World, but it’s not a traveling carnival either. Very sad.

Wonder if the harness couldn’t come down far enough due to their size and it left a gap on the bottom for them to slip out from.

Yeah someone from the ride or behind the camera immediately yelled "call an ambulance".

That’s a big ole boy he shouldn’t have been allowed on that ride if the harness didn’t lock when trying to secure him in the seat. Big ole lawsuit incoming
Posted on 3/25/22 at 11:53 am to Byrdybyrd05
Damn that's terrible you see him fly right out with 47 seconds to go in the video. Didnt even have time to scream really. God damn. Also WTF with the crews working slow as shite like its the 5000th time they've seen this happen? Even with the dude in the background repeatedly saying LET US OUT.
frick.
frick.

There should be electronic fail safes on these rides. If all harnesses aren't locked down, the launch mechanism won't work. And the walk-arounds/manually checking as secondary.

It always bothers me when those rides have the locking overhead brace, but it doesn’t tie down or seatbelt down. I want the extra knowledge of knowing the brace is seatbelted in so it can’t just lift up, it would have to break the seatbelt and lift up
That is an example of an anti-submarine belt I was talking about. It is like the 5th strap on a 5 point racing harness. It is a low tech low cost solution that would almost certainly prevented the accident.

I assume that's what the workers meant by some light being on
