I think there is an element of self-mutilation.

A lawyer on my masters swim club who has his degree from Columbia law and works for one of the top law firms in the country doing wealth asset management has a bunch of tats. In his speedo you can see everything......But when he puts his suit on you can't see them. Is that trashy?

I'm always amazed at the sheer volume of trashy tattoos (and obesity) whenever I'm at an outdoor public event.

Oldmanbeasley has a tattoo of a ruler on his inner thigh. It was out of necessity due to women having no idea how long an inch actually is.
