Sounds like typical corporate BS.
Average retail shrinkage (theft) is 1.44% nationally.
Target sold $109.1 billion last year.
So Target's $1.1 billion in losses is better than average.
Nice fail mr smart guy that drops in every thread like this to defend shitheads

It takes a lot more than a billion in sales to generate a billion in profits
Not to mention they raised their prices by about 25% along with every other business, partly to compensate for theft and damage from riots.
So even with all of that inflation and insurance money they still lost a billion in profits.

Cornell (CEO) drew a direct link between crime and closing stores. ….. specific financial consequences from crime:
$500 million loss in profits this year, following a
$600 million loss in 2022.

What would their losses be like if they prohibited black people from shopping at their stores?
Posted on 5/17/23 at 1:26 pm to WildcatMike
I do wonder how self check outs have affected shoplifting numbers

I don't care about Target and I'm pleased they're hurting but this shows you why people who say stealing and looting are fine because "the company has insurance" are idiots.

hire a fricking cop, idiots
What would that do when local DAs aren’t prosecuting thefts?
Posted on 5/17/23 at 1:30 pm to BilJ
It’s probably increased shoplifting quite a bit, but Target will never admit it.
Posted on 5/17/23 at 1:38 pm to WildcatMike
But, but we got nowhere to shop in our neighborhood. It’s racism and white flight. Haha.

Holy shite, over a billion in theft?
When I worked next to a Sav A Center in New Orleans, the store manager told me they sometimes had close to $500k in theft in a year.
And this was before large cities decided to stop arresting blacks for committing crimes.
One of my past times at that job was to watch people sprinting through the parking lot with armloads of groceries.

Nearly half of young white liberals (46 percent) reported being diagnosed with a mental health condition. That was significantly higher than the percentage of young white moderates (26 percent) and young white conservatives (21 percent) who reported a mental health diagnosis. Young white people who identified as "very liberal" were considerably more likely to report mental health problems, even compared with their peers who identified as liberal.
The inmates really are running the asylum.

Hire cops. Arrests criminals. Prosecute criminals.

Alternatively, hire the loss prevention guys from the SF Walgreens.
They can literally murder people yet not get charged.

Not really surprising when you essentially stop prosecuting theft in many cases
Truly amazing that removing the potential for negative outcomes from an action breeds more of that action.
