You don’t need a truck. Get a hatchback instead.

Don’t want to run the risk of getting the optional metal shavings in the engine leading to catastrophic deconstruction.

That same truck with over 200k is probably in 1/3 the cost but the value for the dollar on the more mileage
You can definitely get higher miles at a lower price but even well made vehicles have shite start to break over 200k miles. Typically 30k to 40k miles has been my sweet spot. Don’t eat the depreciation and still a lot of life left.

I WFM now so on a late night with brown liquor I would guess less than 8k per year on the high side.
Then rent a truck when you need a truck.
It'll cost you $70 a day and you won't be stuck holding the depreciation bag.
You're driving fewer than 10,000 miles a year so go lease something cool for two years and when that contract is up go lease something cooler. Make it a personal goal to lease the coolest fricking car you can in your area.
This is where we differ and that is OK. A vehicle to me is a tool not a status symbol to be cool. I drive a truck because it fits my needs. Do i need one everyday, of course not but that is fine. I consider a truck a more versatile vehicle. It does everything I need without having to rent anything else.
Kind of curious for you to explain what you have against trucks.

My daily is a 15 yo Lexus, 190k, never an issue other than normal consumables.
When I need a truck, I have a 20 yo. 250, goes maybe 3k miles a year.
I'm well into the 'cars are appliances ' stage of life. I have enough drama.
YMMV

The question is write a check for clunker for him or for a new vehicle for me and let him drive my maintained ES350 that’s 10 yrs old and has 150k miles.

You don't need someone to talk you off the ledge. Offer the guy what you want to pay for it. He either takes it or he doesn't. No ledge needed.

UPDATE: already gone. One day on the market. Crazy.
Some hypocrite here probably told you not to buy it so he could buy enough time to find it, and bought it out from under you.

I thought about that.
Reality was I couldn’t get my head around paying $46k for a 10 yr old used Ford.

You fit in the ES? Is it effectively a 3 seater or can someone fit behind the driver?

Get a 2023 or up….the 10 speed transmission is fixed in those years…the 3.5 ecoboost is fine…use the premium gas and change the oil frequently and you won’t have problems
