I know.
Who would’ve thought it would get to the point where it’s cheaper to buy a low mile 4 yr old Lexus SUV than it is to buy a 10 yr old used Ford with a V8.

fricking $46k.
That’s brand new truck territory. I know there’s risks in new trucks but there’s no way I’m buying used because the price and unknown history. Car Fax only gets you so far.

This is funny because my wife and I fish almost exclusively from a canoe.

Sticker in 2016 was $62k. The internet is a miraculous thing.
And they probably got 15k off that

I am not in any way arguing this is a good deal. It’s just a unique find of that combo of year, drivetrain, trim package and low miles.

I drive a 2017 F150 XLT. I paid 32k for it. I don't remember what the MSRP was. That was pretty irrelevant at the time. The same truck is like 52k now.

Still a terrible deal. Can you post some photos of the truck and the dealership name? I just want to be sure I am giving you good advice.

I just saying it’s a great deal for the guy selling it. Not very often you can drive a vehicle for 10 years and sell it for the same as you paid. Outside classics that go up in value

I appreciate the thought that went into this. Seriously. But I have enough cash on hand to buy this truck 3 times. I’m a saver which is why this whole thing is killing me
It wasn't really directed at you, more the royal you.
It was more an explanation of why leasing might work for some people

The more you look into it it’s crazy. Did you get the year with the new ecoboost that will need cam phasers? Did you get the year with the better engine but the first gen tranny that has problems? Drivetrain is solid but that year has a shitload of recalls for electrical problems. Find an older model with no issues but it has 200k miles.

Mine has been solid for 9 years. I'm going to drive it into the dirt, or at least until my kids are all off the payroll in 3-4 years. It's insane to me what they cost now.

I drive an SUV that was totaled due to hail damage. $500. Great A.C. and Bose music system. Drive it every day back and forth to work. Very dependable. When it conks out, which it will (been driving it three years), I have it towed to the salvage yard.
I have a back up, a "little old lady" Buick. I drive it for variety.

I’ve noticed that the people that comment about not needing a truck also all have been driving them for decades.
If you want a good truck on a good budget, get a 2016 or 2017 F150 6 cylinder or 8 cylinder.
They don't have the BS touchscreen technoogy and gadgets that add 5,000 extra dollars to the price of a pickup, and that generation F150 was one of the best if not the best.
Posted on 2/1/26 at 11:03 am to SquatchDawg
If that’s the case buy a brand new F150 for $60,000 with warranty. With no worries about the downfalls of a 10 year old vehicle. This really shouldn’t even be a discussion.

I'm reminded of the old quote about a fool and his money....

I drive my wife's luxury sedan when we go into the city together and I can't change lanes without looking back about 12 times.
I can almost guarantee you that the mirrors aren't adjusted properly.
Just about every time I sit in someone else's driver's seat, the side mirrors are adjusted to look straight back. Side view mirrors should be angled out to catch your blind spot, not to be looking directly behind your vehicle.

Tons of used F150s out there with decent mileage and nowhere near that price. I recently bought a 2014 FX4 for occasional use and I like it so much I drive it more often.

You can get a base 2500 Custom gasser 400, 6.6, Crew Cab 4wd for right under 50k.
I dont see how you beat that.
It gets better gas mileage than my 2006 6.0 Gas 2wd crewcab

I've never been big on over paying for a few miles. A 10 year old truck should have about 120k on it considering the average. I'd def try to see what else that 43k could buy.
The sweet spot for me ever since I turned around 30 is to buy after it's just rolled over 200k. That same truck with over 200k is probably in 1/3 the cost but the value for the dollar on the more mileage if it's been maintained far supersedes paying 43k for the low miles and a person can tell if it's been maintained. I guess it depends on your financial situation though. You've probably also got 3x plus as much money as me and can afford to throw away a bunch of it on newness
