My pops used to take me out for playoff baseball games but that’s about it. Grandma would come get me every now and then just cause. Don’t remember ever getting out for a week though.

I will do it till I die. Beach and Disney are FAR better in the offseason.

I'll probably do it some early on.
Probably not in the high school years.

The absolute best way to travel is when as many other people as possible are doing something else like school.

I would, but AP schools only allow 10 total days unexcused for the whole school year. WTF?

Mine did for snow skiing trips.

Guess my parents were lame AF, they never did this.
Lots of my friends take their kids out of school for a week to go to Disney, beach, even hunting.
My younger two missed the whole day and I checked out my oldest two kids from HS at lunch to head up to Vandy.

Wouldn't that be excused? If the school okays it ahead of time, I don't see this issue.

Yea my older two had a test and ROTC uniform inspection that morning.
Just have to plan around it b/c those absences are not excused.

When we try to get our kids to miss several days, they always refuse bc they don't want to deal with makeup work or don't want to lose their exam exemption

I’m yeah. If they are responsible and can make up the work it makes sensr especially if you can go places at a cheaper or less busy time

Our district gives kids a week every year for travelling with working parents as excused absence, aka vacation.
This year we are "working" in Couer d'Alene, Idaho for 4 days, flying to San Diego for 4 days of "work", and spending the weekend at Universal and Disneyland in LA.
Lucky kids.

I’m taking mine to Australia for two weeks in November. Teacher is going to give them their assignments prior to us leaving.

Nope. The teachers will mark them unexcused but it's not punishable like skipping class is. They just can't make up any work they miss in THAT class if they didn't work out something with teachers.
And 10 UNEXCUSED absences a year is a LOT. My kids may end the year with two, already having one for Vandy.

a family vacation is not an excused absence.
that's called skipping school with your parents permission.

Stay in school and stop taking kids to Disney

Kids learn more on vacation than they do In school.

20 years ago I would've definitely said no way to taking them out of school for vacation.
However, a lot of life has happened to my family and I since then and I would do it in a heartbeat today. Life's just to short and sometimes opportunities come up that have you traveling during the school year.
