Even when falling off a bike due to no one's fault but your own? Seems a wee bit unnecessary.

i think i would be focusing on the 2nd ER trip. she's gonna have a 10-20k or maybe more dollar bill for all the CT scans and labs and it was all negative. maybe the first doctor did a proper physical exam and deemed other tests unnecessary, then you go to a different ER and they feel the need to overtest to cover their own asses because the patient said the 1st ER didn't do anything. That forces the next place to do everything so they wont get sued. All along she would have known the clavicle was broken the next morning when the radiologist read the x-ray, still outcome is the same and sounds like she was treated properly in the 1st ER even if they didn't say it was broken.

Having the hospital waive the cost of the first ER visit because they made a mistake is not going to raise healthcare costs. There are umpteen other factors that play major roles in rising healthcare costs.

You keep creating strawmans and exaggerating my points. The result, regardless of what it is, isn’t the issue itself. It’s the second trip which felt necessary even after the first Doc reassured multiple times that the shoulder was fine. Once that was wrong and the other continuing symptoms, the need for further tests seemed prudent

Im not creating strawmans. You just aren’t thinking clearly.

The EDs job is to stabilize and treat emergencies. Doc said there is no emergency, you don’t have a fractured skull, your clavicle isn’t displaced requiring immediate surgery....

Go home in a sling until the radiologist can review imaging.

WTF is so hard to understand about that? No “mistakes” were made. You just didn’t get a million dollar 2018 level workup. Radiologist on call to review every possible hairline fracture. That’s how medicine used to be practiced. You got a taste of socialized medicine. This is what I mean when I say Americans are asking for socialized medicine but they don’t understand what they are asking for.

No mistake was made

If he comes back and tells us the ortho significantly changed the treatment plan that will make a difference in outcome then yes I would call that a mistake

You realize the treatment for a broken clavicle is a sling right?

Or that sometimes the indication for additional evaluation and testing is that the person didn't get better with rest and pain meds...

That sure seems like a mistake. It would have been caught by the radiologist the next day, but I agree with you that a ED dr shouldn’t miss something that obvious. They should definitely know what needs surgery and what doesn’t.

OK yeah, that's a pretty bad miss by the ER doc. You shouldn't need a radiologist to see that the bony ends aren't connected.

Yeah, I would have went to the Er doc and said. They broke the shite out of it, then I would have made a disc for the patient to take wherever they end up going.

You were 100% justified in your argument. Definitely a miss. Would have been picked up by radiology the next day probably without any change in outcome but I agree with you that an ED doc shouldn’t miss that.

I’m more surprised that the sharp bony end wasn’t obvious on physical exam of a woman in triathlon shape, that would be pretty obvious just looking at her. Sure hope you aren’t jerking our chain...

No way anybody looked at that and didn't see it. If so? They didn't even look.

False.

There was like an hour ER wait time. This fat dumb bitch didnt want to wait. She walked across the street and called an ambulance. They brought her across the street. She got triaged, not serious, back to the end of the line

Well maybe it’s only for old people who are more convincing. Or have better insurance.
